I agree with all of the above, as long as they are relevant, they are very effective white hat techniques. Another suggestion but these are all dependant on your type of business and can be time consuming:

• Having your own blog with valuable information that links back to your money site
• Using Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc to post to build up a community of followers who may share your posts and create free easy backlinks (works well for clothing, bars, club type business where people will share). This can be used either to your money site or your blog.

These two ways are very effective and white hat techniques but time consuming.

Why article submission/Blog posting missing in the list? I think this is more important

I prefer article submission over social bookmarking. Because social bookmarking has lost it's appeal after recent updates of google. Most of the SB sites are flooded by spam links which reduced the value of SB sites.

In my opinion in link building is important strategy, you must work out your own strategy in which you will get backlinks with easy ways, it's not inevitable to follow others strategies you must have your own

It doesn't really matter too much how or where you get the links. What is most important is the PageRank of the page that the link is on, the Authority of the domain that the page is part of, the number of other links on that page and the anchor text you use.

I tend to use article marketing on good (high PR), article directories, then build links into those articles from manual blog comments, wikis and forum signatures.

Blog commenting & forum postings can be helpful. However I would be very careful if you are planning on outsourcing, automating or using services for these methods. No one likes spam and your loss of reputation is not worth it.

Having real and meaningful conversations with people in the same niche and becoming an authority on a given subject, will build your reputation (not to mention backlinks) in the right way.

I don't say blog commenting are effective - The reason is, say now you have no comments on a blog and you place your comment, on later days if the blog admin become inactive, then other spammers can spam the blog and place lots of links and that blog may become link-farm. You may not remove the links from that place even...!! this happens specially with the blogs that has good PR. Anyhow there are exceptional cases..... On the other hand, it is not easy to find blogs relevant to a niche that approve comments (even the comments are written well)

Check your competitors backlinks using ahrefs.. read their backlinks and copy and improve.

I think it's safe to say that any method can be spammy if you are churning out 1000 links a day using the same method, same cookie cutter automated content no matter where you are posting. Hope nobody is doing any of that, because Google carries a big stick. But if you switch it up, use different methods, cover your tracks and provide some value in exchange for your links then you will get them.

Like for blog commenting, I use scrapebox, find high pr sites in my niche that have blogs that give do-follow links. I look for the choosy ones. Then I "court" them I make friends and get my links. Lots of times I butter them up with something helpful... send them some tips to cut down their loading time, or let them know about broken links or anything that might make their site more usable or SEO friendly. I just put it out there, they are tickled, I start up a conversation with them in comments and I get my links. Very good success rate with this, high PR do-follows folks. Sure, I could use scrapebox to blast everything with spam and maybe some of it sticks but if the webmaster accepts garbage posts then I don't want my site on there anyways. The point: any method can be spam if you don't put any thought into it, make friends in high (PR) places

My main methods of getting backlinks are:

1) Blogging sites like wordpress, blogspot, livejournal, tumblr, weebly, hub pages and squidoo.

2) Buying relevant aged.coms, then forwarding to my site.

3) Social media like pinterest and youtube. Many of my youtube videos have a pr4 rank which barely takes any work. You just have to blast them with links/views/likes/subscribers (fiver) then age them for a few months. Similar ease with my pinterest boards. Very easy to make, once they're done, they establish a nice pr after a few months.

4) Manual, high pr blog comments.

5) Local directory sites

For now, thats all I'm doing. I don't submit to article directories and I do very little bookmarking, but so far this has helped me rank 12 keywords between pages 2-5.

My site is only 3 months old, but I couldn't be any happier with the love google is showing me. Now its just a matter of getting a lot of those keywords on page 1, which I'll do with more links from my aged .coms.

I agree, but I usually add them with other backlinks such as press release, social network, edu. etc, and I make it into Pyramid backlinks.

Guest blogging still good, but again, choose carefully, both doing one for someone else and someone doing one for you.

Talking about whitehat techniques, Creating Infographics and Whitepaper relevant to your industry is quite effective to build natural links.

As development of both, is quite time consuming & expensive, Make sure you are going to break even with your spending. Do this specially for your long term projects.

I do agree with you that forum posting, blog posting and social bookmarking are the most important techniques of the link building and we can get good rank by using these techniques .
But i thing we should use all off-page seo techniques to make more back links .

Many have mentioned different methods of creating backlinks here, and I do appreciate. But what I have found to work (the best) is that the most effective method of creating backlinks is to create as much types of backlinks as possible. Do everything, including but not limited to:

* Forum Posting
* Article Marketing
* Guest Posting
* Backlinks from Video Sharing Sites (e.g. youtube)
* Web 2.0 backlinks
* Wiki Links
* Social Bookmark links
* Directory Submission links
* PDF sharing
* Podcast sharing
* And 100's of more.

The key is to make it as much diverse as possible. And then No follow, do-follow, anchor text variations are like spices to make your efforts even better. You just need to use the right combination of these spices. Hope this all helps!

Infographic syndication - super easy and fast once the infographic is created. I created 6 infographics (one for each niche) resulting in about 3 links to each of my money sites a week on autopilot.

This technique is so effective and easy, I'm looking into getting some professional infographics created for wider syndication.

Social media shares seem to carry the most value these days. If you can get a Facebook post to be shared and passed around outside of your immediate Fan base, it can count for a whole lot.

Most backlinks hurt your rankings because of the speed, number and type. I've been using a very slow but natural way of building backlinks for 2 years with no problems. Mostly social backlinks and page likes from various ip class addresses will boost your rankings without penalty.

I would say that blog commenting is not black hat method, if you comment to contribute to the blog, if you are commenting for building links only then it can be black hat method.

I agree, those are all good, but would add one more. Getting links from sites in your market that have the keywords you want ranked for and pointing those links to the pages you want ranked for those keywords. It's an old SEO tactic, but it still works great and has survived the search engine changes.
