Duplicate Content - Someone Stole My Article! Now What?

Hello,

I got an article written, put it on my website, copyscaped it and there were no matches (i.e. it was unique and original).

Now after a week or so, I copyscaped it again and there are 3 pages with 50% exact matches of my content (499 words match)... One of the copied articles is on Ezine too! WTF.

Do I need to change my article to avoid a duplicate content problem/penalty? Or will Google know which article was first? Or is it so insignicant in affecting my Google rankings that I should not worry about it?

What is your advice? Thank you

I contact the admin for the site and ask for attribution. 9/10 they DO. This way my name gets about!

btw, some people actually post on eZine FIRST so that there is an "authoritive" proof of "first posting"

Theres been a few posts recently on WF about how to get rich quick. This example typifies the mindset. Sure you go to the lengths of creating original content. This task alone should be commended. My last book took two years of research and 3 months to write and i would hate to dismiss copyright theft as no biggie.

Jeremy Schoemaker, like him or not, often quoted as saying "I was successful because i did the things other were not prepared to do"

Chasing down every one of those people who infringe my copyright takes a lot of time. But i have found that when i request at least attribution and a link to source, most people comply.

This is the hard work behind the scenes. This is the "secret" to getting rich. Once, this was an in-convenience, but this is the way it is now.

By way of a metaphor, imagine the person that restricts themselves because they are unwilling to learn to drive a car - we'd look at them as crazy! Especially if they lived in the countryside!

This is the way things are, everyone hates copyright infringement. There are two problems:

      1. Expensive litigation means that no one in their right mind will sue unless you have very deep pockets. And the first rule when suing people is, "Make sure the defendant has money". Suing someone with no money is just idiotic - unfortunately.

      2. The time and distraction involved in such a process. (Again, Schoemaker says hes litigated in over 50 cases)

      BUT ITS ALSO OPPORTUNITY.

      Heres a test:

      O P P O R T U N I T Y I S N O W H E R E

      Now here or Nowhere?

So, all these people are spreading your work over the internet. Look at is as if they are working for you for FREE!!! They are marketing your work!

All you have to do is get the majority to give you attribution.

      This is easy:

Set up a google alerts on key phrases.... create a recipient mail box just for these alerts. Then, when you have an hour of "down time" work to get your attributions. The copyright infringers have done half of your work!

Sleeping on your rights is subscription to erosion of your rights by implicit agreement.

      Get after it!
