Forgive my ignorance here but does adsense do a good job of serving up ads to people in India? I am generating decent adsense revenue to U.S. visitors on my site. Can adsense pick up on the ip of the person's location and deliver a country or region-specific ad to folks on the other side of the planet?

I'd really like to come up with a business model that can handle India and am wondering if adsense will fit into the plan?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Google doesn't count most of the clicks from India...just a hunch.

Well, I can understand why you'd say that but only if they can't detect and sell to India which is kind of what I'm asking. Any idea?

I think it already does that. Not all adsense ads are related to content on site; some are related to user's browsing history. So your visitors from India will get ads related to stuff they were searching for and browsing earlier.

      I didn't know that! That's embarassing...

Thx for the info but that still leads to similar question: does Adsense really have good ads for those in India?

I mean putting up ads for a stores and products on the other side of ocean ain't gonna draw any clicks. I still go back to the idea that they have to use the ip info to really do any decent targeting...

You will get a lot of traffic and even click but CPC will be too low. Try to target the high volume keywords. The CPC is typically around 0.08$ and sometime lower than that so you need to have very high traffic still you will struggle.

    That's one big semi-oxymoron.

Thank you for putting 'semi-oxy' in front of that.

Would you like to say more? I'm all ears...

Basically it depends on the market, the market in the US is the biggest thus more competition and then higher paying ads, so even though there will still be ads targeted for indian visitors, the prices would not be as competitive from the us market.

You can say that again. I make about $3.00 RPM from adsense in the U.S. In India I make about 11 cents! Ouch.

There's got to be a better way. If anyone has any ideas, let me know...

We have only few big advertisers in India right now and most of the time adsense endup displaying different classified websites( olx ,quikr or other shopping websites etc) advertisements for various good keywords. Low advertising competition allows advertisers to place low bids on cpc or other promoting methods.

Well, is there any alternative to adsense in India? It doesn't sound like there is really anything "out of the box" that does well there consistently, eh?
