I created this thread with a poll to find out what people prefer to use.

Please vote on which you use more, ppc or seo.

Thankyou
#ppc #seo

You should have an option in the poll for both, not either/or.

Yeah, I didn't vote because my vote would be for "both."

Both require a LOT of skill and PPC can be dangerous unless you know what you're doing. But it's also the quickest way to see results.

Can't beat organic traffic. But the convenience of PPC is great, being able to turn it off and on instantly, is great.

I actually use both. So I get myself on top with PPC and slowly grow my organic so it would seem like a seaming less transition when I get my site to first page.

I would bet that many people would argue with you. Rewarding, as in, not having to spend any money? Sure. But people who know what they're doing with PPC can double their money pretty easily.

Totally random example, but I'd rather spend $1,000 in a week to earn $2,000 that week than earn $2,000 in a month while spending $0.

And it can still take plenty of money and time (which is also money) to rank for high competition phrases. This is why I tend to stick to low competition phrases / keywords that are easy to rank if I'm going the SEO route.

  • Agree with Julia there. I never click on ads and don't know anyone in my circle who clicks on ads when doing a Google search. Have relied solely on SEO for the past 12 years. Admittedly this is the worst year so far but hopefully we will get over the hump.

I also use both. I don't like to rely on only one traffic source.

I would imagine most IM'ers do not click on ads, but the vast majority of web browsers do not think like us. In most cases, they are looking for information and ads probably often help them more than they information on websites do. I don't think it matters much to them. If people didn't click on ads, Google wouldn't bring in $100 million a day from Adwords. And that's just one company.

Actually when the ads come up on top they are much more likely to be seen and clicked. Sometimes you'll see only junk in the serp, sometimes you will see junk in the ads.
I would rather say, IMers don't click on crappy ads, but if you were looking for a hotel with the query 'hotels', why wouldn't you click on one? :p then if you look closer, agoda is one of the top sites for the hotels, but its not even in the serp. Do you get what I mean? )

I am new to both ppc and seo. That being said I voted for ppc because it gives you instant traffic. You will need to track all your advertising and block bad traffic to improve conversions.

SEO on the other hand seems very complicated and it is apparently very hard to rank for competive keywords. At least with ppc you know what your paying per click and what your ad rank will be for the CPC your paying.

I have to say anyone who chooses one over the other is someone I want as a competitor, because I will beat you every time. Anyone dumb enough to do SEO without PPC is going to be easy to squash. And if you do PPC without SEO, then I will exploit that weakness and crush you just the same.

If you chose one over the other, and then couldn't compete it in a competitive niche, it may have been me, or someone like me, that wasn't foolish enough give a half-hearted effort at marketing, that kicked you out of the niche. If there is a niche that is highly lucrative, you will go up against serious competitors and your time and money will be wasted unless you step up your marketing and stop leaving half your business to your competitors.

      Just saying...

I don't agree with what your saying. Some people that only do media buys and hate seo. Some of these people spend well over $100,000 but make a masive profit.

End of the day it's about profit and ROI.

          Really?

I have yet to bump into any such animal. Are you sure that those "people" aren't from the land of the mermaids, unicorns and other mythical creatures? I am not saying that don't exist, just that they are as rare as a winning lottery ticket. Most in that situation are forced to spend on media buys because they have failed at SEO, not because they do not want to rank well in search engines.

And again, if they are competing in one of the niches I target they are toast. I also do media buys where there is a positive ROI, and by matching their every effort along with exploiting their weaknesses it is just a matter of time. The only way they will stand up to a full fledged marketing strategy is if they have patent protection, government granted monopoly, or some other unfair competitive advantage.

Search, AND SOCIAL, engine optimization is best for long term success. These should be pursued daily to build sustainable traffic over time. In the near term, especially if you are just getting started, you can build traffic immediately with PPC, but you better have a plan for return on investment because is can be an expensive way to build traffic.

SEO is the best form of search engine marketing but it will take weeks to set up, and months to achieve noticeable results.. SEO if done accurately will give us top ranking for our main keywords in organic search .The PPC ads can provide instant traffic, and simple campaigns can be set up in a matter of hours.

PPC are mostly used by the businesses who are looking for instant sales leads. Yes, some small websites also use it PPC but they are less in number. I personally do SEO for my website and relay on free traffic from different sources.
