Domain aging on free webhosts

My knowledge about this is very limited (got this idea just an hour or so ago) so I don't know whether this is white hat, black hat or purple hat:p so if this is wrong..please do tell me. I have read that aged domain is one of the advantages to have when starting out a new website. Search engines apparently give more "points" to aged websites compared to new websites when ranking them. One of the ways to age a domain is to put up a 1-2 page website with content relating to your niche and let it be until you decide to turn it into a full fledged website. In order to show the SEs that the site is alive, you either add fresh content to it once every month or two or update the single page so that the spiders visit it.

Now I have a couple of decent domain names that I hope to turn into websites after I get the hang of SEO/IM. However until then I don't want them to simply sit with my registrar..what I would like to know is whether creating a page and getting the site live would help me when I finally decide to start on those domain names. Also would it help if I simply put them up with free hosts or platforms like wordpress.com seeing that I have no intention of either monetizing it or attempting to get any visitors?
