Is there a diff between regular hosting and seo hosting plans?

Hi,

I was having a converstation in another thread that stopped a while back and got some great advice on hosting. And many people seemed to recommend against seo hosting packages, that allow you to have 5 or more domains hosted on different IPs, but these were shared with other domains.

I currently have a few domains on one iP with hostgator, but now realise I need to have them on different IPs as they point to the same money sites.

I am asking this question here, as i am in the middle of a hosting transaction and realised that bluehost offer $5 per month (over 3 yrs), but then I read:

"A Dedicated IP address ensures one IP address is tied to your account, and only your account. A unique IP address allows additional features, including the ability to open non-standard ports, add SSL Certificates and is believed to improve search engine rankings."

DOES this mean that most hosting plans are shared IP's and if so, what is the difference between them and a self declared seo hosting company?,

For instance I have found one that provides up to 15 IP's but they are all shared with other domains, and the price is often similar to a regular hosting plan like bluehost? Why would I go for Bluehost if they are technically doing the same thing (unless I pay extra again for a dedicated IP)????

    The only times SEO hosting is better, is:

    1. if you're looking to develop a private blog network
    2. if you have a LOT of site that you link to each other
    3. if you have a HUGE website with thousands of posts (for better loading speed), but of course, for this option you can also use VPS or Dedicated servers, which might be slightly cheaper if you look in the right places.

      Can you tell me the technical difference between seo hosting (giving you multiple shared IPs) and bluehost or hostgator single account, that still has an IP shared with multiple domains?

      At least with seohosting, most plans seem to give you a few separate IP's even if they are shared?

      Regarding point 1&2, you can still make a private blog network with bluehost etc, but it will cost four times as much, even though each IP is shared, which is EXACTLY Like seohosting ??

    SEO hosting is preferred especially if you want to create a huge website with massive webpages on it. Or if you want to be a hosting reseller. Or like mentioned here if you intend to create a network of blogs.

      I hope it is not rude to ask the same question over and over, but the crux of my question is:

      "IS THERE A TECHNICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REGULAR HOST (THAT SHARES YOUR IP) AND SEO HOSTING, THAT SHARES YOUR IP ??? and what is it???"

      Why would I pay for five websites on different hosts (that give me shared IPs) when I can pay less than half that with ONE seo host, that also gives me shared IPs ???

      Besides the bad neighbourhood concept (and I am sure that regular host can have bad neighbours on my same IP) I dont get the REAL difference.

      DOES anyone actually know the answer in here? In non tech terms ??

      PS I am not after an answer like the following that I found elsewhere:

      "So what is the difference between SEO hosting and normal web hosting? SEO hosting unlike normal web hosting is a set of tools and integrated commands which aim at providing you with essential class C Ips which will help you to get the best out of your search engine queries. "

        I use seohosting.com for some of my domains, (they are actually owned by or part of Hosgator, I can't remember which). You basically pay for each IP address. I do this because I have several funnel sites pointing towards money sites and I want these sites on separate IP addresses. Also for my Amazon and Adsense sites I can add one way links between various sites.

        Each of the IP addresses is a 'shared' IP but in practice I don't see many domains from other users when I check what else is hosted on these addresses.

          I have found elsewhere that the only reason people seem to hate seo host sites is that they say some charge a lot for separate C block IP's and that some go the whole moral high-ground. Its hard to be on that ground when most seo forums talk about black hat tools and selling links etc. There is no level playing field, just catch up. Doesnt matter how great your content is unless magically it goes viral.

          I looked at seohosting and they charge $7 per month per IP if you have up to five IP's. That is more than hostgator, so I don't get it besides the guaranteed distance between IP addresses.

          Then I checked seohost and they offer five IP's for $10 per month ($2 per IP) !! There is another one that a friend recommends .. and I will have to check them out.

          As you say if you have funnel sites that you are not selling on, and dont have major traffic, and you dont want the sites easily linked then sep IP blocks seem good, though dont know how you get around host ownership issues (ie one host owner for five sites still is a footprint).

    The idea that you get "SEO" from different IP addresses is a myth. I've already gone over this here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6906464 ...as well as at 3-4 other sites, minimum.

    IP addresses are not a positive consideration in rankings. The search engine programmers are far more savvy than spammy site owners, as has been proven many times in the past two years especially. The idea that you'll somehow cheat the system is silly.

    IP is, however, considered in negative rankings. This is the "bad neighborhood" effect. When you have lots of spammy thin affiliate sites trying to cheat the system, using the same ASN or IP range, then that whole range gets downgraded as suspicious, spam, etc. And "SEO hosts" are among some of the most crap-filled IP hosting ranges on the web.

    Worry about the usefulness of your site, not which IP it's on, what keywords it "targets", etc. Provide something useful, and the rest takes care of itself.

    From a technical stances, "SEO hosting" is simply shared hosting. Period, end of story, nothing special about it. Most shared hosts already issue additional IPs if you have a valid reason; note that "SEO" is a nonsense reason, hence the rejection for that justification.

    Anybody that starts talking/writing about "C class" and related nonsense is best ignored -- it's technical jabberwocky with no real meaning. It does not refer to the third octet of an IP address.

    "SEO hosting" customer are pretty much people being duped and throwing their money away.
