More and better backlinks from my competitor but still in the 7th position

Hello!

I have a squidoo lens in the 7th position in google! I have made 36 backlinks

The website that is first has less backlinks and these backlinks are from Low PR websites.

My lens is online at least 3 months and I cannot outrank my competitor.

There are also useless one-page websites that are ranked higher than me!

Can anybody help me?

      That's just simply not true. Yahoo answers, WF, ebay, amazon,
      wikipedia, etc. rank pages #1 with zero backlinks.

      Backlinks, sheer numbers, have very little to do with ranking some pages.


      A webpage is only useless if the searcher goes to that page and
      their question is not answered. Any webpage could be useless.
      If it answers my needs, I don't care if it's one page, or one word.

            Nobody said the content wasnt important.

            However I firmly believe backlinks will be all he needs to beat his competition. Besides he said his page is a squidoo lens. Their is not a whole lot of changes he can do with it. He has what he has. Just build backlinks now and he will rank is all I was saying.

    As for the backlinks - don't slow down. Look to the highest quality sources that you have. Analyze the backlinks that they have in depth and mimic their sources where you can.

    Also, because you have a better backlink profile and find yourself unable to outrank them, look at all of your on page factors. I have seen significant jumps after tweaking some of my onpage problems.

    That's a free on page analysis tool that (i think) lets you get a report for one site for free. Check up on that, and see where you can improve. Some factors you won't have control over, since it is a Squidoo lens.

    Maybe you competitor was ahead of you in this niche. It is more trusted than your squidoo lens regardless of the backlinks it has.

    Its happen because you post the news later. It will take time if your squidoo links quality content.

    As others have said, make sure your Squidoo lens content is targeted at the search phrases you're aiming for.

    Get more backlinks from a variety of sources and with as close as possible to a natural mix of page ranks/follows/no follows.

    If you've not already done so, add a video or two on YouTube and put them in a module on your lens.

    Remember that Google doesn't necessarily react to changes immediately.

    I was in the same situation when I started with squidoo lenses but I quit building links but I started to write related lenses and link them to my main one. Over the time I wrote a lot of other lenses and slowly my lenses started ranking better.
    The higher is your squidoo profile credibility the more links you will get from other squidoo pages such as ranking/top pages. So don't concentrate too much time on backlinks but on more quality lenses.

    You have no way of knowing that for sure.

    Backlink checkers, at best, might find 30-40% of the existing links. I have a site right now that shows about 2100 links in Ahrefs, OSE, and Majestic combined. In Google Webmaster Tools, there are over 22,000 links.

    He might have a lot of really good links you do not know about.

    Also, if he maintains a private network, he could be hiding links from there. I block all the backlink checking bots in most of my network. Competitors can never see most of my best links.

    Add more relevant content to your lens - that's it. If your lens has 2-3000 words of unique content, your site will be in top3.

    All I can say is focus on quality for everything you do on the web for a period of time and it will start to pay off. Going around getting links from low quality sources can harm you, so be careful.
