Would you suggest attending school for SEO?

I've been in SEO for a long time. I have worked actual SEO jobs and have done my own SEO, as well. I feel like I know a little bit about SEO, but maybe not all of it, which is crucial, no?

Even when I held my most valued SEO job, I felt like I didn't really know what the hell was going on and that my work wasn't professional. I never had job satisfaction.

So I have been thinking about going back to school. I look through all of the career choices I can choose from and I keep running into SEO again and again. I feel like it's the one thing that I have a head start in and the only thing I have a chance in, because it's the only skill that I have on this planet, even though I'm not completely skilled in it.

Would any of you suggest that someone go to school for SEO? Or would you say that everything is available for free or through WSOs online?

I feel that it would be a good idea because the school that I am looking at has a very renown teacher of SEO and, furthermore; a degree or certificate from a school would most likely take me farther with job prospects than just stating that I dabbled in SEO and hung out on the Warrior Forum.

What say you?

I feel that attending school for SEO would be 60 plus grand down the toilet. I guess it looks good on a resume if you're looking to get a 9-5 career oriented job but I'm not sure why people attend actual universities for anything internet marketing related.

Well, the school I'm looking at isn't a university, haha. I'm looking at spending about seven grand on this if I go for a degree. About two grand if I just go for certification.

Pretty much this at the core.

Of course, it has to be relevant and high quality content or naturally it's going to be far less profitable and Google won't like you nearly as much but that's basically all it's about.

People over complicate SEO and making money online.

Unless those teachers have proof that they have 100s to 1000s of top rankings why would you even want to learn from them?

You can learn better tactics online for free. SEO school is a big rip off, by the time you graduate, the rules would have changed. Save your money...

Seems to me the real problem is your confidence in your own abilities. and the first question I would have for you is, would being certified really solve this problem? if you were certified would you then feel confident in your SEO abilities? Or would you still feel that your work isn't professional?

My other suggestion is to spend one weekend and just write down everything you know about SEO, and then organize all that information into your own system.

    Everything you know about keywords
Everything you know about getting a site indexed
Everything you know about ranking a site
Everthing you know about taking a poorly ranked site and improving it

    etc, etc, etc.

Maybe it's more about clarity and how each of the different parts of your SEO knowledge fits together.

I do notice alot of people do advise that you can find any information on any IM subject for free here on the WF.

The thing is that is not always a good thing. There is a lot of bad advice, and straight out wrong advice on a lot of different topics, including SEO.

So then the problem becomes sorting through and trying to learn what is what.

Not only that but then if you work in all the distractions that could happen when someone is searching through the threads looking for SEO knowledge, distractions from other threads, from WSO's, or even just distractions from being on the internet and the temptations to visit your favorite sites.

The time lost in sorting through bad advice and through all those distractions could cost you more than this school program you are thinking about.

My point I guess, is It could be possible that going through this course might help you clear through the clutter and have a better understanding of what is good advice and what is bad advice alot quicker than just browsing the WF by yourself, and you will be with a group of like minded people all holding each other accountable to learn SEO. And at the same time in the evenings you can be applying what you learned

So I would say go for it.

EDIT: Just to clarify my thoughts a bit more. The benefits of going through a school course, are being held accountable by the teacher and fellow students, being around like minded people, leveraging the teachers knowledge and hopefully going up the learning curve alot quicker, hopefully being able to cut through what doesn't work to what actually does, having some sort of structure in your life, or being taught the knowledge in a structure that hopefully can give you clarity on that knowledge that you can come back to again and again.
