Definition of "Adding Content"

Often it is said that adding content to your site on a regular basis will keep Google interested and make Google crawl your site more often.

My question is how much content at once does that have to be?

If I expand an article on the site from 300 words to 400 words, does that count?

Or expanding a 400 word article to 600, and so on...

Does adding in a new h tag count as content?

Or does "adding content" always mean a completely new post/page?

Also, if I add content every day, will Google start to crawl the site every day and push it up in the rankings?

Looking forward to any opinions/comments based on your experience...thanks.

  • Two benefits of posting new content frequently
1.) google crawls your site more frequently so your pages or your new content gets indexed and starts ranking a lot faster
2.) query deserves freshness is a part of the google algorithm that raises a site's serp positions the more frequently it is updated, which is also the reason for new sites sometimes jumping up to the front page before falling back to where it's supposed to be.

I don't know the nitty gritty of it, but I think google is more interested in new pages being created rather than existing pages being extended. In fact, apparently number of indexed pages is more important than length of articles to some extent.

    • I appreciate your response...obviously I'd better get cooking with more reviews for my Amazon site. My 27 reviews just aren't enough to push me to # 2 or # 1, although I linger around the bottom of page #1. The search volume for my keyword is over 1000, but not by much. I know from previous experience before the EMD update that I can make money with this site if it's higher up, at least #3.

I've spent the day beefing up reviews that were just around 300 words. I'll turn my attention to more reviews.

If anyone else has gone through a similar thing and has some words of wisdom to share, I would love to hear them.

  • The important thing to remember here is to add new content to your site on a REGULAR and CONSISTENT schedule.
Writing 10 articles and publishing them to your website all at once is a huge mistake.
You see dumping a bunch of articles on your website like this does not look natural in Google's eyes and the eyes of the other search engines.

You would be surprised at how easy it is to take advantage of QDF without creating new pages/post, QDF is one of my favorite things for Google SERPs.
