I guess nobody give homepage backlinks, seriously !! exception is they know you.

Very few people give homepage backlinks. You can get paid ones from few people but google can penalize such links, so there is always a danger of getting paid links.

Very few do, I still sell them but they are higher priced these days.

My SEO clients get some homepage backlinks because i have lots of established sites.
It works well for SEO.

I think, you have to spend more than normal to get links from home page.

Here's an idea: you can always contact the webmaster of a site with a PR of 6+ that is in your site's niche, and offer to provide him with free content (a few articles written by you or another that you hire) in exchange for a home page backlink.

Or you can make your own network. I run a private blog network myself. And It pays off really good. Just ensure that you can drive traffic to them in order to make it more natural.
