Okay, so I am doing an amazon site, so the main keyword almost never leads to searches/product discovery, usually its product keywrods...but still do you trust a .com over a .org as a buyer?
#org

Everyone trusts .com. Most people trust .org. It's not really an issue of trust, but an issue of branding. Do you think you can get as many people to your site from offline marketing if your address is mysite.org or do you think you'll get more if it's mysite.com?

As a marketer and pretty frequent Amazon buyer, I would say go with .com.

  • For me it's what I habitually type in from muscle memory.

And especially for branding purposes, if I remember the domain, I'm always going to be typing in .com and never .org.

So even if it's for the 'direct traffic' crowd.

I just don't type in .org.

I always go with .com if it's available because it is the TLD that pretty much automatically comes to peoples minds. When have you ever that about looking something and what pops into is, 'oh let me see if this gizmo is at gizmo.org'?

Honesty I don't think there is any difference between .com and .org, as long as you know how to rank your website and drive traffic than it makes no difference.

I would prefer .com or .net, but .org I dunno.

Always go with the .com if you can, but there really isn't to much that will hurt you if you go with a .org

.com is by far the most widely known, most used and most valuable TLD.

.org might be useful just to help instill the fact that the project is open source.

I have to agree with everyone else on this thread. I'd always go with a dot com domain when I am intending to sell anything to my visitors.

I didn't see any difference between .com and .org. My .org site can rank #1 with out any problem.

For no reason at all, I personally like .org rather than .com. So, many times I choose to register .org domain even if .com still avaliable. It is up to the sound and feeling when I pronouce my site name. Anyway, I don't like .net and others.

PS: wordpress.org look more professional than wordpress.com in my feeling.

No one said that you can't rank an org domain or a com domain is superior for seo purposes.

I prefer dot com purely for branding reasons. And when I sell a profitable site most of the time dot com sells for more than a dot org domain. I also take in the factor that many people don't remember the domain extension, so I can't afford to lose visitors to the dot com version of the domain.

As I have a little bit of experience in Amazon, I would suggest you to go with .com. It is really good.
