Hello,

I have a website one year old showing good results in Google.com results for certain keywords. But in other Google country tlds the results are in bits and pieces. I am wondering over the option to create sub folders for different country and use rel-alternate tag to ensure Google does not take it as duplicate content since all country based subfolder will have same content and design.

Although I have read through many articles about how to do it, but i am fearing implementing this ( as any wrong step can jeopardise the current ranking). Please suggest me the right way to go about implementing this.

Make sure you did all proper steps to prevent Google penalize, like all setups to point general page as original source and proper inner/cross-domain linking strategy

No. I don't think that would be spamming. So many sites are maintained in such a way that it automatically translates its contents depending on the country when it is opened.

Spamming is when same content is found on different domains. Here, the content is going to be on your single domain. So its not similar.

That is true. Since your content will get translated in the specific country language, you won;t be having any problem of duplicate content. The important thing is, your main site content should be unique.
