I've been interested in domaining for quite sometime now. I am beginning to get more interested in getting something started and have seen a couple of webinars on the subject. My question is, how has the Google EMD Update affected the demand for domains. My understanding is that people who purchase domains are look for EMDs for specific keywords. Is there still money to be made here?

I own and use several exact match domains, most of my ratings have gone up. But that is because the sites are up to par and nit just thin mini sites.

The EMD will always, let me repeat that always do well if the site is well built and full of original content.

Just don't combine it with a sub-standard link building campaign, and then build a site people love and the EM should help you.

You really only need the keywords in your url once...so if you have it as EMD then fine.

Eg. BestDogMittens.com now for pages you can use BestDogMittens.com/red/ rather than BestDogMittens.com/bestreddogmittens/

If your site was PuppyHands.Com then you could use PuppyHands.com/bestdogmittens/red/

Something along those lines. (open to discussion)

If I am going to build a good site, I want a nice brand name. One of my sites gets 20% of its traffic from its brand name....which is not EMD. I still get the Google traffic but the site name is catchy...and I am sure that it is giving me a ton of traffic I would otherwise lose to the person who rank on the first page for those EMDs...I own my brand first page...noone else gets any of that traffic.
