You should aim to get both, as it is good for the SEO of your entire site. However, when trying to rank a specific page/post, you should concentrate on getting backlinks directly to that specific page.

Yes the links to the homepage maybe not benefited for homepage rank but they can give valuable links to all of your posts and pages. sometimes if the backlinks of the homepage is strong you only need that one link to be able to rank well with your specific post.

I aim for most relevant and high PR page, Doesn't matter whether homepage or internal page

If the individual posts are more targeted than your homepage for your keyword, then linking to them is better.

Its simple if you you have optimized your website for home page than try to build backlinks for homepage and if you think that your blog post is capable enough to get more traffic than try to build backlinks for posts.

Set your backlinks priority to your Homepage! You don't want a visitor to pass through your window while you have a door, do you?

Common sense! Every bit of important information needed by your visitors can be found on your Homepage or is just a click away.

Also as I have notice each time your Site increases in Page Ranking, let say it has become PR3 your pages that was created at the same age your site was build it will automatically increase in Page Rank. So in the example your site is now PR3 your other pages/posts might be PR2 or PR1...

IF you have a good SEO and he can manage to rank both why not, Go ahead give it a try it's worth it. Especially important pages in your sites.

I think both is good for me

You have to emphasize on both home page backlinks and content pages backlinks. Because home is always important for a website or a blogsite. And also there is no doubt that backlinking to the content page will boost the page rank of your homepage always. So, nothing to worry about.

Home page always have the main keywords thats why most of them target home page.

In my opinion, focus for both only home page back link is not enough.
