How to check for duplicate content on one's websites

Hi Guys,

Is there any software that you know of, that I can buy to spider my own sites, to help me check for duplicate content or near duplicate content on my sites.

I am not trying to compare my sites with external sites, just the stuff on my sites which I may have inadvertently duplicated, either in part or whole.

Thanks,
Sam

dupecop - search the exact url in google and it will help you out probably.

Copyscape is another option - the free version doesn't find all instances but finds enough. It highlights the words its found which can be quite useful.

If you mean checking for dupe content that may "penalize" you,
why would you need a checker?

Don't you know? If not, why not? I certainly would know if
I published the same thing twice. But then, that's not a dupe
        penalty, so WTF.

Dupe content that can be gotten via alternate urls created by
some internal settings, is not anything to worry about.
It's there for some reasons, albeit mostly lame ones.

I can only assume one is using WP or some other
        gawd awful CMS.

You are not right in your assumption.

A few sites of ours have over 4,000 pages of content on quite narrow niches.

The possibility of inadvertently writing content that is very similar is very real.

Hence my request for software ideas to scan ones own site to better spot any duplicates or close duplicates.

          Thanks.

    About copyscape-

As of late I have noticed that copyscape will miss some duplicate content. I still use it, and find it to be reliable, but always combine it with a Google search of snippets of your content. I've had copyscape miss a couple of things like content on a web 2.0 that was an exact match when I searched parts of the content with quotes.

Yeah WP is pretty terrible with that.

copyscape is a good option to check the duplicate content of a website....however there are a fixed number of times you can use copyscape service for free and after that you need to take a subscription.
