Thinking of using google adwords for the first time

I've been doing mobile sites for about a year now and have made a very good living doing so. I also do web sites, hosting and that stuff but have been focusing hard on mobile sites because they are quick and profitable.

I haven't had to advertise as I get a lot of word of mouth (i'm lucky I know). However I'm hiring someone shortly and would like to ramp up sales for this new hire. I was thinking of using google adwords but this is unknown territory for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Basically i'm looking for new leads and adwords seems like a quick way as I have extra money to invest in this. However if there are better ways to capture leads i'm all ears.

Thanks!

  • Cnckevin,

Adwords is great for getting targeted traffic and since Google has 70% of the search market they are one of the best platforms to use. As mentioned by the other member, there is a big learning curve for Adwords so you would be wise to hire someone to do it if you don’t have the time to learn it yourself. A couple of tips. You want to make your keyword and adgroups highly targeted. Group similar words and phrases together in the account along with their corresponding ads.

Your landing page is one of the most important components for success. Adwords will get people to your site but if your landing page doesn’t convert well, you will not have a good experience.

Here are some other adwords best practices,

    • I've messed around with adwords in the past, but nothing serious. My experience then was I wasted money it did drive traffic to my site but I had no sales so I probably did 100 things wrong.

Do you have any recommendations on who I could hire? I'm not looking to spend a lot just something small initially to see how things go.
  • Google Adword is the best toll for Keyword Suggestions.
  • Indeed, Adwords is a good way of generating leads. But this involves money, so whatever you do make sure you are ready to face some monetary losses. Although Google gives you a free budget to try your hands on adwords. If you get good leads from this budget, you know where to go after that.
  • I'd definitely read Advanced Google AdWords by Brad Geddes, well worth the read. PM if you'd like a copy.
