Outranking Authority Sites

I have a site that is optimised to a certain keyword. However, page 1 of Google has authority sites (eg. Apple etc..) that are ranking for the keyword but not optimised for the keyword. Is it possible for me to outrank these sites in a matter of months or is this just wasting my time? If it is possible, how do I outrank these authority sites for my keyword?

Yes, it is possible to outrank authority sites. You need to build high quality backlinks to your site. The best backlinks are those that are: dofollow, relevant, contextual, and on high PR sites.

Also, try to get the same backlinks that your competitors have. You can do this by spying on their sites' backlinks here:
Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch. Then, see if you can get your backlinks placed on some of the same sites that they have theirs. Backlink building is a fun, but very time consuming process. You may consider outsourcing too. Take a look at my sig. for more information.

yes u can, but dont think of it as outranking sites. Its more like outranking those particular pages for 'THAT' particular keyword.

Get relevant dofollow anchor text backlinks from other sites in your niche and don't forget to vary the keyword variations when backlinking to your particular page.

myblogguest.com is a great place to find authority sites in your niche that you can post on.

Another thing, make sure you ease up on the on page SEO: keyword once in title, once in description, once in image alt text, and one more time somewhere in your content.

FORGET ABOUT KEYWORD IN: H2 tags, H3 tags, bolded in content, italicized in content.

Also make sure ppl can share your content and embed a video in your content to improve bounce rate, this in turn will improve SERPS.

AND FINALLY, make sure your pages and site for that matter is FAST! You can use wp super cache plugin and cloudfare for this, speed will improve your SERPS.

This is the post of the day.

OP: follow the advice here and you'll never go wrong. I outrank authority sites all day long with the stuff he's saying here.

Do they outrank me for most keywords? Of course!

But for the ones I'm gunning for I always outrank them in the end.

True the page is what's ranking, but If that keyword is a longtail keyword of another short tail keyword that Apple (example) is also ranking for, you could be up against more than just that single page that's ranking #1.

Example, If I rank a page for the keyword auto insurance, I can use other internal pages to boost the relevancy for the additional keywords for the longtail keyword low cost auto insurance. Now when you connect the already ranked page with the new page, that's a pretty good bit of authority being passed on from the 1st ranked page to the 2nd ranked page.

People need to look at the big picture of why the page is ranked.

A lot of people only look at external links, that's part of the research but the on-page can sometimes double the work you'll need to do to out rank the competition page.

When I rank pages, I always go for double/triple SERPs for the same exact keyword, doesn't matter If the extra pages actually get double/triple SERPs (a lot still show), it still builds up multiple pages of relevancy for the same keyword. If you do the internal links correctly you can usually get Google Sitelinks to show beneath your ranked page. Those Sitelinks are passing relevancy back & forth between the internal pages.

Nice replies to this OP. If the sites are not being worked on, you will outrank them. Just work to do that. You have a very good goal - to beat these big names who don't really do much on their sites. Nice motivation, go for it!

This is not impossible but, yes, difficult. Authority websites are not optimized of keywords.. but the quality of content and backlinks they carry help them to make it to the top position. I believe, 2nd position is not that bad.

Answer is Yes, but actually it depends on the keyword and the the website which is on first position which you want to outrank. If its wikipedia etc you should go for it.

You might outrank authority sites but not for long since Google is updating its algorithm all day long.

EMD .com/.net/.info/.org > Weekly 400-800 words articles to your website > relevant high PR links > wax in/wax off until you reach your goal.

It gets you started, just stay in and adjust every time Google comes by with a new algo update and you should do great.

You can outrank a page which is showing at the top of the google ranking for your keyword and not the entire site. The sites in top 3 of google are very high authority and it is almost impossible to outrank their domain. You can outrank a particular page by increasing your authority and getting relevant niche related backlinks.

Great answer kaytav you sure know what you are talking about. I realize this from experience - with hard work you will manage to get in the top 10 but ranking in top 3 against an authority website will be like a PHD

He did it by spamming his keyword anchor-text forum sig. on irrelevant PRn/a forum pages with nofollowed links.

His dad might have tools, lol!

Get around 5-10 really high quality homepage backlinks from RELEVANT websites and you should be able to outrank them.

Its possible to outrank any site. Is it plausible, maybe not. Whats your niche. What is the size of your niche. If you are competing in a niche with say 10 million searches on Google a month, then it will be unlikely that you have a good shot at competing with the likes of Apple. If your niche is a bit smaller and there is little direct competition or in your opinion comparable competition then go after it!

It would be hard, but in depends if this certain keyword has HIGH competition or not so high... If only a few HIGH authority sites like Apple are ranking, you can easily get to TOP 3 by doing PROPER On-Page and of course Off-Page SEO! Social Bookmarking, article and forum marketing and of course GOOD Guest Blogging is strongly recommended!
