Site Ranking going up and down

Hello All,

My site is about 6 to 8 months old, I did some basic SEO for it by myself, since last month my site has been on google first page for a couple of keywords and on the 2nd page for other keywords, now every week or fortnight either the ranking of my site goes up or down,

Sometimes I don't even rank in top-50. Is it because my site is new one or because of any algorithm update from google ?

My link building techniques have been so far "normal" I haven't spammed on blogs with gibberish spam messages like others do, I have used anchor texts at some points but not that much. My competitors have build links using spam commenting techniques ( some of the competitors have completely build ranks by just spamming on blogs) still they are on top for all key words and their ranking never change.

Can some body explain this ?

( Ps : I have done some minor modification in content and pages every now and then, can this affect the rankings)

Thanks All

When will this 'google dance' stop any time period for this

Just keep building links. Diversify your anchor text greatly. Google will stop the dancing once it realizes the true ranking of your site. At the moment, it's basically "unsure" where to rank you.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!
