Hello Everybody,

just curious to know your opinion about .tk domains and if you have ever seen one or more of them ranking well on Google.com

Thanks,

I just did a search in google "affilorama jetpack discount" and on the first page 8 results of .tk domains. LOL
And the most curios thing is all of them are redirecting with one CB affiliate account.

  • Axel,

In general terms, ranking any TLD is going to be the same in the eyes of search engines. The only area that will be different is with localized results. So if you are trying to rank in the U.S. for products/services using the .tk domain, you will not have as much success as if you had a more universal TLD such as a .com, .net or .org.

That being said, Google is getting better at recognizing when any kind of website might be relevant to a searcher’s query. Check out this video by Matt Cutts talking about .com’s ranking on google.co.uk,

More about generic TLDs in (say) UK results

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but I'd much rather throw a few bucks at a .info domain and not really have to worry about it. I've heard some bad things about .tk domains. So it's worth $1.99 to avoid any hassles IMO.

    Exactly.

I'd absolutely choose a $2 .info domain over a .tk. Or any other "free" extension. I know that some people aren't big fans of .info domains. But they've always ranked just fine for me.
