What amount of traffic should I expect to get with domain forwarding?

Hello everyone and Happy New Year 2013 to you all,

I have some questions that I would like to ask and hopefully finally get some answers;

When I forward a domain to a hosted website what traffic will I get from the forwarded domain? Is it only typed in traffic?

If the GMS (Google Monthly Search) notes 4,000,000 for a domain name but the domain is not hosted and is just simply being forwarded to a website; what percentage of traffic will the domain name really get and forward? I understand that a non-hosted domain will not come up on a Google search, is this correct? I do not understand what traffic will be forwarded.

Regarding the GMS, I saw a domain that has a GMS of 124,000,000 and the website with that domain(the .com) gets very little traffic. It is in a foreign language and it has the word Google. I don't know if it Google is limiting the traffic since they are infringing on their trademark or if it is just happening on its own. If on its own, I don't understand how a domain with a high GMS would get little to no traffic. Can some one explain this to me?

The bottom line is that I have several domain names similar to my website www.philosophyonline.net and I plan to forward them once the website is done and up and running and I want to know if it is worth buying more domains to forward for traffic.

It seems to me that if the domain name is not hosted it will not come up on a Google search so the grand traffic of the GMS would be non-existent, which will leave only the typed in traffic. If it is only the typed in traffic, I would think this would be minimal. Is this correct?

One last question, if the GMS for a domain name is very good, how are the different extentions .com, net, org, biz, info and us affected? Is it worth buying a .biz, .info, or .us for a domain name with a high GMS?
I Thank you in advance for your time and patience. I eagerly await a response.

It entirely depends on whether the forwarded domain had existing traffic and backlinks.

I'm assuming you are referring to Google Adwords Keyword Tool broad match searches for a particular keyword. GAKT has nothing to do with domains.

If it's a brand new domain, then the amount of traffic would be non-existent or minimal.

The only traffic that the forwarded domain would receive is from domain typos.

Again, domains don't have any GMS figures attached to them, only keywords do. You are most likely referring to exact match domains (EMDs).

That figure of 124,000,000 would be the broad match figure. You need to look at the exact match figure to get a much better idea of the actual number of searches.

The bottom line is that I have several domain names similar to my website www.philosophyonline.net and I plan to forward them once the website is done and up and running and I want to know if it is worth buying more domains to forward for traffic.
If they are all brand new domains, then it's a waste of time and money (unless you are trying to protect a brand name from cyber squatters).

UMS, thank you very much for answering my questions.

One of the things I want to do in my life is to visit New Zealand someday. My favorite English accent is that of the New Zealanders. I find your accent unpretentiously elegant and down to earth.

Thank you for letting me know. I wasn't sure. Most of my threads will be posted there.

      I understand.

Would it be worth hosting a good domain name with a high GMS for a month and submitting it to 700 or so search engines, then cancel the hosting and forward it to the website? Would this increase the traffic?

Then, why do people check GAKT and purchase keyword domain names with a high GMS? What I have understood is that the GMS gives you an idea of the interest people have on the topic and the traffic you can expect. This is not correct?

I am obviously a newbie and I just want to let you know that I appreciate your time and the any answers you can provide.

Where can I get the exact match figure?

Much better to spend your time and money promoting your primary domain.

Simply purchasing a forwarded domain and submitting it to search engines isn't going to help you with traffic.

Then, why do people check GAKT and purchase keyword domain names with a high GMS?
In the past, EMD's gave you a boost in the search results. Nowdays, that advantage has pretty much gone after recent Google updates.

 What I have understood is that the GMS gives you an idea of the interest people have on the topic and the traffic you can expect. This is not correct?
Generally speaking that's correct, but you have to be able to interpret the figures in the right way. Remember that GAKT is primarily a tool for people running Adwords campaign rather than for people doing keyword research.

Where can I get the exact match figure?
In GAKT on the left hand column, you can select three match types:

        1. Broad (the default)
        2. Exact
        3. Phrase
