Will change in URL affect traffic on my site

I am thinking to move my 3 year old php website to WordPress finally. I have done all the research and selected theme and logo for my website.

I have just one question related to it. Lets say if my website page is indexed by Google as http://mywebsite.com/Happy-New-Year.php . Now, if I move my website to WordPress, the link would become: http://mywebsite.com/happy-new-year.php. (all small letters).

If a user clicks on old link(Happy-New-Year.php), he will be redirected to new page(happy-new-year.php) made in wordpress and it won't show 404 error. This thing has already been tested by me.

Just wanted to know if Google will remove old page from its index and re-index the new page and will that make any significant decrease in traffic to my site from Google?

Thanks

Hi, a 301 redirect transfers most pagerank. You may lose a few spots, but a few links will quickly sort it out!

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

    Hi Fanta81,

You should use a tool like Screaming Frog to get an export of all your old links, and then as the others have suggested setup a 301 redirect for each link.

It's easiest to prepare in a spreadsheet before hand if you have hundreds.

If you're using WordPress you can use the Redirect plugin. You can map your old URLs to the new ones using a permanent 301 redirect.

I don't want to use 301 redirect. Just wanted to know if Google will treat both the URL's differently.

Traffic changes a bit if your contents in Old page is different from new page.
Google will reindex if you change any ( move sidebar, change menu...)
