I have found a local expired domain which doesnt have much going for it but probably still worth the money as is £7 for 2 years to register.

Before I do however i have a couple questions.

Is it best to but a straight redirect on the domain to my site or create a landing page with a link. This is in terms of link juice that is.

Also if I decide to buy it when I check analytics how does it show in terms of traffic that has come through the domain if its a straight rdirect. Will it show as the domain itself or from a site that has backlinked to that domain. if you see what i mean. Im guessing from the domain itself but wanted to check.

Maybe you can check analytics for that domain in Referer . If you redirect it to another website, check Analytics Google for that website, check on Referer Traffic and see.

It depends on the expired domain.

You have to be careful of what you 301 or else you could seriously hurt your site.

Check the link profile in ahrefs or majestic before you make your move.

I 110% agree, check the backlinks and make sure its not been destroyed with Spam else you risk sending that over to your website.

    thanks for your comment people,

The url deifintley hasn't been spammed as can be seen from checking the links as suggested although if I make the purchase I think i'll redirect to a buffer site to be on the safe side.

    Thanks

You will get far more effect from a redirect. A mini site with a link to your site will be about 1/10th as effective. The only thing to make sure of is that you don't just redirect the base url, but find out the directory structure and redirect all the subdirectories of the old site.

Any sites linking to a domain that you have redirected will show up as a site linking directly to your site. The keywords for the old site will be superimposed onto the keywords for your site, and any geotargeting will also be transferred over. This can lead to some interesting hits to your site.
