Need an answer for big client for SERP bouncing after major onpage SEO improvements

Background...recently SEO'd a 500 page website. Each page now has a keyword target, page title w/keyword phrase, meta descriptions w/keyword phrase, alt text, content, etc

I know from experience that after major SEO improvements, SERPs can bounce around. But this I need a more technical or thorough answer for what is occurring. Can anyone give some feedback or site with a good description?

Thanks!

If they didn't have any of the basic on-page SEO it might move the page in the SERPs after you updated the pages but it should be a positive move, unless your keyword stuffing (over optimization).

Usually junk external links are what will cause a page to bounce in the SERPs.

      Its a US site.

All changes were done onsite. I should have mentioned, we also cleaned up lots of duplicate content pages.

The changes have been good after they bounced around a little...I guess I am just looking for a good explanation of this bounce.

If that's all you did, I'd hazard a guess that it could have been something else -- say, a change in the algorithm. (This isn't an Australian site, is it? There's been some chatter about Australian sites dropping.) And you're sure you didn't accidentally throw in a noindex or a bad canoncial tag?

One of the cause why your SERP bounce is competition, sometime your site is over ranked by competitors. Second is the site where your link is are down or permanently removed. Third Page Load, google will show all those sites that loads faster to lessen search time.

It's probably G processing your site.

Remember how many pages they have in their index (trillions).

It takes them a while to re-figure out what's going on with your new site tags.
