Hey,

Is this tactic viable: in order to not spend money each month on different hosting services like Hostgator and Bluehost, how about do a 301 redirect to Web 2.0 sites like Blogger or Wordpress?

Kind regards,

  • Trytolearnmore,

Your question is a bit confusing. Redirecting users in this way typically requires that you have a hosting account. Generally web 2.0’s don’t allow you to insert code that redirects users. You could do it with blogger but it would be forwarding and not a true redirect. How do you plan on redirecting people without a host that would facilitate this action?

Are you talking about forwarding your domain to a Blogger or Wordpress.com site?

You could do that, but it would be pretty pointless as it wouldn't achieve anything apart from having to fork out for a domain you aren't going to use.

Well, the web 2.0 website could get backlinks from the bought domain (I was talking about buying an expired domain with a good link profile). Would it really be pointless then?

        It's actually a good question.

OP wants to know if he could simply re-direct his PBN to web2.0 properties and thus avoid multiple hosting fees.

I like it. Except so many contradicting reports of PR degradation (only get 85% from redirect?). But no idea if that is true or not.

It costs $20-35/yr for solid hosting. Just get a host.

Why would you want to give a Web 2.0 platform control of your content anyway?

      True.

But in your experience, is this method workable?

It is doable, of course, but it would ultimately serve no purpose as you will not have any control over the content.

It's actually a good question though as you would retain the authority built to that domain and even if the content got deleted, you can still add it to somewhere else and redirect there. I wouldn't do it even then -- very good hosting won't cost you more than $10 a month.

Technically it can be done. But is that worthy to do that?

You seem to miss the the real answer above.
To do a 301, you still have to pay for hosting.
So, what would be the point?

Most hosts will do a domain forward for free. Many people
do that. Google will actually forward your domain to
      your blogspot blog that way.

Many, many, many, big sites do the same thing with
      a plethora of domains.

But then, your "domain," would not actually live on the web.

Why not just forget about it and just do a free bloggers. I'm
sure you can make a tidy sum doing that, adsense,
      amazon.

Toss in squidoo, and squidoo paired with blogger could be
quite lucrative for free, if done right. Since I pair all mine
with dot coms, I can't separate the income in a good way.
But I make almost half from squidoo and blogger right now.
What I mean about not being able to separate it, is that
I don't know how much those 2 things would earn had
I not done dot coms in tandem. But, squidoo and blogspot
seem to be decent stand alone income generators. Free!

        Hey Paul,

You are not correct in saying that a 301 redirect requires a hosting. Domain registrars allow you to do that easily.

Thank you for the Squidoo and blogger idea. So, in a nutshell, you create several blogger blogs and squidoo lenses, add great content, connect them and profit?

Hey Paul, when you say you're pairing your blogger and squidoo lens, do you mean you're running two separate sites that are standalone but link to each other like sister sites or literally two blogs with the same branding and content? I'm trying to figure it out but maybe I'm missing something blindingly obvious. What would be the benefit of pairing the two other than branding?

I interlink like a madman. I have hundreds of lenses linked to
domains, domains to blogs, blogs to domains, blogs to lenses,
and everything in between. That and twitter.

Each domain has blog. Each domain has a twitter. Each domain
is related to dozens of lenses, linked on those lenses
accordingly. Lenses linked to other lenses using the discovery
      module.

      Typical scenario:

Make blog post on blogger. Blog is already linked to domain
using the links gadget. Link blog post to one squidoo lens,
one article page on dot com. Since I have the blog module on
any and all related lenses, the post shows up there as well.
Tweet the blog post using that niche's twitter. Once again,
using the twitter module on all related and semi-related lenses,
the tweets show up there. If it's related, I'll retweet my own
      tweets on my other twitters.

Sometimes I post links on various facebook pages in related niches.
      Sometimes on my personal FB.

Sometimes I mix up the links in the blog posts to just general
lenses to boost backlinks of those.

You can tweak any and all blog posts into various niches using
less than 6 degrees of separation.

Everything is free, except the domains, of course. November
and December were spectacular months on squidoo. I'm
looking for a healthy payday this month and next.

A lot of my adsense clicks are from blogspot.

I will never get over the fact that squidoo and blogspot
are just absolutely terrific. Both free.

I never run out of ideas for blog posts. Just redo some article.
Look at the news. Yahoo is a goldmine for little news tidbits
in any and all niches. I spin them on a regular basis.

For squidoo, I do both general item lenses, as well as my niche
related. But link on any and all no matter what. Like I said,
6 degrees of separation, at the most.

It's hard work, but the thing is, it's good work. You are creating
more and more content with backlink places, expanding an
      ever growing online empire.

But just look at the forum threads dug up by spammers:
forums, blogs, etc. to go and spam. Ridiculous.

I don't understand some people in this sub section of the forum. People seem to love thanking posts and threads full of spam, junk and useless or inaccurate information and ignore posts like these. I honestly think a number of people here can learn a ton from this post from Paul in how to build a successful business online and how it can be done with very little outlay.

I have never been someone to spend any time on Squidoo or indeed much time on Blogger but have plenty of ideas now for both of them thanks to this post.

I am going to bookmark this thread now if nothing else just for this post full of gold and come back to this down the road to remind myself of all the relevant details. If some of you people are looking for how to make more money whilst spending next to nothing you have the full blueprint here. Now let's see how many people take action on this lol.

        Thanks Paul

This is what i use web 2.0's for...

Sending tonnes of spam links to them and ranking total rubbish content.

Don't stick your good stuff on web 2.0's. Web 2.0's are for ranking spam or for use as link laundering sites.
