Hey WF I was just alittle confused on how to implement anchor text diversity. I hear people giving different percentages on how much they use keywords,URLs,variants, and etc. That's not my problem though. Lets say for example I have 3 kws and i have to do 10 backlinks for each of them and my anchor text diversity plan is something like 20% Kw, 50% URL, and 30% generic(click here). Do I implement this plan on each individual kw or spread it out btwn all 3 kws.

any help would be appreciated thank you

There is no exact number how many percent that the keywords should be. Just do the various anchor text backlinks.

  • Jrivera680,

It is debatable as to whether there are exact percentages for variation. If this were true (which is may or may not be) it would also be niche specific because not all industries online would see links built to their sites in the same patterns.

The key thing to remember is that Google technically doesn’t want people manually building links at all. They want it to happen naturally. Obviously this isn’t the best method but you have to make sure that you are not making any kind of pattern that would indicate that links are being built in a specific way. So I would not use your method. Try your best to not make any sort of recognizable pattern.

Adhering to a set ratio as you mentioned as not a good idea. Link profiles are random and vary wildly from site to site.

Personally I never repeat an exact anchor text more than once unless it's brand, naked URL or a common generic like 'here'.

Spend a day looking at various natural site's link profiles and you'll see that it's actually quite rare for a money keyword to repeat. Sure you can get away with a few repeats but why make your link profile stand out out as artificial? Sooner or later someone will file a spam report or you'll undergo an manual review.

At the moment i'm finding that once a site has enough trust and authority, on page factors become much more important. Most of the keywords my sites rank for are not in the backlink profile, their on the page. Of course the trust comes mainly from links so you still need links.

There is no exact percentage of diversity. It should be done by understanding. Also use phrases with keywords in it as you anchor text which will help you diversify and look your link building more natural.

I have pretty much gotten away from anchor text links except when linking within my own sites. Search engines more and more are looking for "Natural" Links. So let me ask you. Is it natural for someone to write a comment somewhere and put some keyword phrase and make it a link or put something like I saw a great article at www.xxxxsite.com I would think the latter.

      This is just my opinion
