To Spin or not to Spin. That is the question.

You've got services like articlemarketer saying that the best strategy is to write unique quality article that will be picked up by hundreds of sites.

Then you've got software like SENuke, that amongst other things involves spinning articles to submit different versions of the same thing to avoid the supposed duplicate content penalty.

These strategies seem to be in complete conflict with each other. Any comments?

First, there is no duplicate content penalty for content across multiple domains. There are filters that may be applied based on the specific keyword being searched. You can test this out easily by doing searches on current news, music lyrics (my favorite) and other common topics. On the same domain, filtering is also applied although a full blown penalty may be applied if certain conditions are met but this is rather rare.

Secondly, it's a matter of quantity vs. quality.

Creating articles for quality will get you direct referral traffic and allow your article to appear on higher quality article directory sites. Better articles generally end up being syndicated more often.

Creating articles for quantity means that you're trying to boost your incoming links by adding a link to your site anywhere you can. Direct referral traffic will be virtually non-existent, quality article directories won't accept your article and the links will be of low value but you'll have a lot of them.

Both methods work but work differently. Using a combination of the two has produced the best results in my experience.

I wouldn't really agree with one of your points. I have never had a problem submitting articles to top directories such as ezinearticles and goarticles etc that have been created using a tool.

Yes, you have to set things up properly in order to spin / create decent articles, but if you put the time in initially to set up correctly then the articles should read well.

As far as backlinks are concerned, you definately want unique articles. Whether you write them yourself or use a tool.

So if I write one unique article and place it on 50 Web 2.0 properties will I get the linkjuice?

Spinning is better than using the same
article which are also on other websites.

But make sure after the spinning, the
sentence and phrase dont get mixed up
and have lots of grammar error

As long as the spinning is done manually using macros then I would say spnning is good.

If done by for example Google Translate then spinning is bad

It's legal. Google probably doesn't like it. But if utilized correctly, it is very effective. The thing to remember is that it is a tool, not a magic bullet.
