How do search engines read a multilingual website? We are translating our website in French, but this will not be exactly the same as it is in English. Will the website also score on French keywords and will the (English) link juice also have results for the French version.? Another question i like to get an answer is how to make sure that a visitor lands on the page in the language He is searching . Will search engines do this automatically or do we need to add information so search engines make a correct redirect.

You need to set the html language tag to the language you want to be listed under.

You can find out more, here: Language tags in HTML and XML

That and your text being in French (in your case) means that it will be picked up by the French search engines. I have had no problem ranking English, Dutch or German pages from one site. With only English backlinks.

You can translate your keywords using a localization tool: https://poeditor.com/. You can import and export to xml and xls also if you need it. It has both auto translation options and the possibility of crowd translations. It's very simple to work with, you should try it when you decide to start.
