noob kw question

Hey guys,

The main keyword I'm targeting is 'vancouver mortgage broker'.

Right now, the only kw I'm using is :

+vancouver +mortgage +broker

and a bunch of negatives. Is there any point in adding an exact match "vancouver mortgage broker" and a phrase match "vancouver mortgage broker"?

Or is that completely redundant?

  • Are you referring to SEO (maybe meta keyword?) or a PPC keyword?
  • Is it for an Ad-words campaign you are working on?

    • Yes its an adwords campaign. I'm wondering if there's any advantage whatsoever to adding an exact keyword when it's already included in the broad keyword.

      thanks
  • When you put your main keyword in Google Adwords keyword tool then you would find many related keywords, you may consider using those keywords for new pages.

Don't use many keywords on your one page, it would be keyword stuffing which is not good.
  • Its better to go for the exact match. Dont use individual words; they will bring in traffic from extremely broad, untargeted searches.

Phrase match also brings in traffic from variations too, so if you are targeting specifically, just use exact match.

    • I'd use at least phrase if not exact match for that. You'll get a lot of unrelated impressions by using broad. If you use phrase, give some thought as to potential searches including that phrase that you don't want. Like "vancouver mortage brokers suck". Obviously you wouldn't want that. So then add "suck" as a negative keyword. You can also use the keyword tool on the phrase setting to find these negative keywords. Personally, I like complete control and use exact keywords most of the time.
