I've heart that Google nowadays penalize for getting links from free press releases. Is that true?I want to try with several paid press release sites. Are they effective? What will you suggest me. I've tried one site: EmpoweredNews.net , but it seems to be without any effect? What would you recommend me (not the most expensive)? What do you think of: seopressrelease, sbwire, webwire and so on ...Please let me know.

I've heard it's not that good but for traffic it is still a better approach.

Press release is very effective these days, no doubt of this really..

But you have to use only quality press release sites.

also try to use other link building methods too so that you would be able to build natural links to your website.

Here you can read what Matt Cutts say about PR: (Matt Cutts is the head of webspam at Google.)

So you'd contract a press release distribution company and make sure that the content of the release have links to your web site. That release would hopefully be syndicated by other news outlets and those outlets will keep the links intact.

Matt Cutts of Google said in a Google Webmaster Help forums that links from press releases shouldn't have a positive impact on your rankings.

    Matt wrote:
Note: I wouldn't expect links from press release web sites to benefit your rankings, however.

Now, when you do press releases, it might get your web site in front of the eyes of bloggers, reporters and others, where what they write or link to may have an impact on your rankings. But the links within the releases themselves, Google says - they won't benefit your rankings.

However I think it may confuse some people. Matt isn't saying that press releases won't help. What Matt is saying is that press releases that are posted to press release sites without getting picked up by real news sites won't help. He's saying: links from press release sites won't help your rankings.

So what do you do? Still do press releases, but make them newsworthy enough to get picked up by news sites. Getting links from industry news sites that have a long history (3 or more years old) are great links to get.

I have found a good link for you which will help you, have a look:

      Nice summary.

I'll add that you should avoidputting targeted anchor text in any release. Stick with brand terms or just plain URLs.

For sure. Anchor text links in Press Releases sure look like a SPAM SIGNAL to the naked eye

I have almost stopped doing Press Release after 2011. I hardly did it in 2012. There are a lot of things you can do to get traffic.

I have a friend that recently used press release on some projects and it worked very good!

Now it is true that depends how you use this things in your advantage, as an example: you can give to someone a laser, and that person can make a gun or medical tool from it!

common sense approach would be to use a press release if you have something actually newsworthy that might be of interest to anything beyond a search bot, as opposed to using just for seo purposes.

I'm not much of an SEO guru these days, but I can say this.

If you submit press releases to quality paid sites, and the press release is of high quality, it will be worth your while.

The key is to publish quality press releases that are newsworthy and read naturally. Writing press releases is an art where you try to entice or convince journalist that your news is of high value to readers or the public.

You will get much better results if your release is about something that the public sees high value in. For example publishing a release about how your company generates renewable energy for 1 million people will get more results than simply publishing a release about your new website. Content matters and so does wording and your message.

Where you publish your release matters too. Like PRWeb.Com, SBWire.Com, etc. The greater your reach, the better the results. If you publish your release on 1 low PR site don't expect miracles. If you publish your release to PRWeb.Com or manually publish to 100 or so high PR sites then expect more.

All the best. Press releases are effective and should be one tool in your toolbox for reaching people and generating traffic/buzz.

I agree with everyone who says that publishing a newsworthy Press Release that gets picked up by a lot of different media outlets is the best way to go.

I provide a Press Release submission service integrated with contextual backlinks that are relevant to the main website and the rankings have been great. I also tried building websites with just one Press Release backlink created and the website is already ranking for a couple of the main keywords I was going for.

It is best to utilize a diverse set of backlinks such as Press Releases, Web 2.0's, Social Media signals, etc.

If you have something newsworthy to say, a press release is fantastic. And that's the original purpose of a press release. But to publish one with marginal content solely for a link is probably not worth the time. The real benefit from a press release comes if the release is picked up by a blogger or other news outlet. Then you get a good link, and most importantly the potential for traffic. But I wouldn't suggest using press releases as a normal SEO strategy absent the newsworthy requirement.

From what I've learned, press releases are a white hat SEO method. Google will not penalize you for submitting releases on those free sites. You'll get in trouble if you publish too many releases in a short period of time.

It happened to me while I was using Prlog.com. I submitted one press release every day for about 3 weeks and about 3 weeks after that, Google banned my website! It wouldn't even show up when I did a URL search.

Most people recommend submitting 2 releases a week. You have to remember that press release websites get syndicated so your links are going out to more than one site. And you may have other SEO campaigns running at the same time such as article marketing.

The paid sites are a lot better than the free press release distribution websites. You get better SEO value and more traffic.

For example, I submitted a release to WebWire.com for $25 and my new blog quickly shot up to a page rank 1, and I got a lot of traffic. You have to be careful with the paid sites. I once paid for a release on PRHighway.com and the results weren't great.

    I recommend WebWire and PRWeb.

A well-written press release can dramatically increase your sales, reveal what your company is all about on a large scale and create a positive image of your business or your products. These are great for driving traffic to your website, and garnering media attention can mean free publicity on television, the radio, or in newspapers.

Press releases are considered as a wonderful tool to get authoritative links back to a website to help with SEO efforts. Press releases are still a great tool to have in the arsenal. A well written press release can do so much more for you than just trying to rank your website for a specific keyword.

I can say that whoever thinks press release to be an outdated strategy is wrong.. Press releases are still effective in SEO campaigns and is of course an inexpensive way to improve your website's visibility. Unless the release is not an advertisement about your company's services, they are sure to top the SERPs..

Yes, of course. Press releases are still effective. The online press release cycle has a significant benefit to SEO and is capable of generating a lot of authoritative backlinks and driving tons of traffic. When press releases are distributed properly, many news sites across the web will publish them along with any links included with them.
