There are always a lot of comments, questions, etc about the google dance. People get all worked up when their keywords bounce around. Just wanted to post an example of one of my keywords bouncing 100+ positions on almost a daily basis and the site has been around for 15 months.

  Why do people think google should show the same old results, day after
  day, week after week. I have never understood that logic. Search
  results and algos change many times during the day, week, month,
  year, season, due to a number of factors. Like weather, news, holiday,
  searchers, just to name only a handful.
  
  If people stopped checking their useless SERP stats, on an ongoing
  basis, they might concentrate on stuff that may be useful.
  
  SERP stats are one of the mose useless stats anyone today looks at.
  There is no SERP stat tracker that will ever be good enough. Google
  has many things in place to adapt to each individual surfer. There is
  no tracker I know of that could even come close to keeping up.
  
  There is no such thing as organic search anymore. Nobody in the
  real world truly searches "organically."

  Sorry, but thats complete wrong. I had some sites hit by Penguin/Panda showing exactly over month that behaviour. And no, not every term in the serps is localized, beside the fact you can turn that off if you set the right advanced search options.
  
  You guys underestimate or overestimate google and SEs to much.
  There is more plain mathematic in it as you think.

  Lol. Mike, I use the tool for several sites I own and this is the only site that bounces around like a rubber ball.

Just looking at the graph it is clear there is a penalty on that site of yours. This is not a typical dance and really isn't a good example of what a G dance is!

Thats the picture of a algo penealty like given from the EMD/Panda/Penguin updates.

Beside their main functions your site gets an quality malus if they found something.
If your site is not total shit, MfA or something it, it owns a quality bonus too.

What you see there is the algorythm fight between the site quality bonus and the quality malus given by some rule your site hurts.

Try to fix the problem and your site will rush up.

Yes, I mentioned it was penalized heavily by penguin, never got any warnings though. But it has been 8 months since then and it is also a PR 5, but it doesn't seem like it will ever come back. Been debating on whether to move it to a new domain without any 301 redirect.

I would think at some point it would follow a trend up or down or stabilize, but to go from 60's to 200+ to 60's doesn't make sense. There isn't anything changing on the site or with backlinks to warrant moves of more than 10 positions, much less 100+ day to day.

OP is obviously spamming.

Even the image URL is a free backlink (hotlinking (hxxp://www.whatsmyserp.com/googledance.png), obviously their trying to rank for the keyword [google dance].

Bad news is Spamfest 2012 has already ended, good news is, Spamfest 2013 is still looking for nominees.

The guy is obviously spamming but the site is actually pretty good. I use it all the time and gives much better results than some of the paid tools.

Wasn't actually intended on spamming and could care less about the term 'google dance'. If it makes everyone feel better I removed the header from the image.

My point was exactly as I said, to show an example of a keyword/term bouncing all over the place. People come to WF and panic because they're bouncing around in the SERP results for a keyword. Well here is an example of it bouncing all over the place on a nearly day-to-day basis and the site is not new. It is 15 months old, but it was penalized by penguin back in April, with zero warnings from google.

Assume what you want though, I guess.
