PPC requires a lot of testing, and yes you will have to have at least a few $$ to get started. Many many marketres and affiliates make their living never touching SEO and concentrating only on PPC.

Why you should try PPC campaign?

    Look at the benefits here!

    Visibility
    Share Keyword Data
Use Best Performing PPC Ad Copy to Inform Your Organic Content Strategy
Integrate E-Commerce Feeds into AdWords Results
Use Site Search Data to Inform PPC Keywords
    Social Media Visibility
    Combat Negative PR
Test Strategic Organic Keywords with PPC
    Reduce Costs
Maximize ROAS (Return on Ad Spend)
    Increase Depth of Keyword Targeting

    Reinforce Branding

    Remarketing

    Testing Capabilities

    Increase Organic Click Through Rates

    Local to Global Exposure

    Some more ideas:

    1. I've found that high performing PPC ad text is a good starting point for meta description tags.

    2. I've also found that old fashioned long-tail SEO keyword research is a gold mine when it comes to finding negative keywords for your PPC campaign.

    3. PPC can be great for seeding content/seeding linkbait...especially when you can tap into a news event.

    4. The content network can also be a goldmine of inspiration for content on your own site. Check out which pages have high CTR's for your content network ads, and if the content on those pages isn't represented on your own site you may have found a good topic for your next blog post or page.

    5. It works essentially instantly

    6. It's easier for less tech-savvy people to grasp, so it's easier to sell/get funding

    7. It's easier to track the ROI of PPC, especially because SEO encompasses the efforts of multiple departments

    8. It's easier to start a PPC campaign than an SEO campaign

    9. For many companies, securing a portion of 28% of the clicks is more cost effective that shooting for the moon and hoping for a larger percentage in organic results

Most importantly, however, none of this matters...PPC is advertising. Would you rather see your client forgoe a PPC campaign so they could buy TV or radio? Or print? No. Of course not.

SEOs need to stop talking bad about PPC. It's advertising, and it should be evaluated against other ad mediums, not against SEO, which encompasses PR, numerous forms of marketing, and very often brand-level ads too.
