I don't want artificial spammy type of backlinks. I am looking for the different ways to get legitimate backlinks. So far, I know of directories, and guest posting. Can you guys suggest other legitimate ways of gaining backlinks? Thanks..

Original articles on EzineArticles, links in the YouTube description of your videos, Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo (with original content), forum posting in relevant forums, document sharing sites like Scribd, micro blogging sites like Tumblr, links from pictures in Pinterest.

That should keep you going for a while.

Just find a quality link building service that can do all of that for you. I don't build backlinks no more. I build sites or create videos and then pay someone that i know gets me results to build my links.

Trust me it will save you a lot of hassle and stress!

Guest posting is a good way to get some powerful links but it takes a lot of hard work. Most of the person are interested in 1 click link blast. You can submit your articles to some good link directories or create some web 2.0 properties.

    Think about Social Media sites.

Go for the majorly popular ones.

Social Media is going to be a *huge* variable in the future of SEO.

People often forget the easiest way to build quality backlinks. It's just contacting with people who have website in similar niche. Simply drop a kind message through contact form that you have a nice website and you would like to have link from him/her site... Many people don't know anything about IM and they will give you a free link easily on high PR site/page... Of course, you have to send loads of mails/messages, but eventually it will work.

For example, you have to have decent site not some CB review site with 5 articles... I once tried this technique, sent out 100 emails, and received approx 20 backlinks which were all on high PR pages... The highest was on PR5

This is a nice way to get some link back to your website. Since this technique worked for you, I would definitely try this to earn some links back to my website.

You should submit your site to website directories. Social bookmarking, article and PR sites are fine. Yahoo Answers and forum post are welcome as well. However, link building is one of the most boring tasks you can do. SENuke and UAW will help you automate part of the process.

To get legit backlinks, one thing you must avoid and it is spamming. Do not build backlinks of your site anywhere and everywhere. Through blog commenting, you can get a lot of High PR backlinks. But you should target blogs within your niche.
