My WP theme is full of ugly code. Is the problem the theme or how I'm using it?

All I know is that my competitors don't have all these ugly chunks of javascript code in their theme.

I need to know whether its possible to hide this code from google bots, to make it seem cleaner, whether I'm using my theme wrong, or whether I need a completely new wordpress theme.

Can someone PLEASE take a look at my source code and tell me what the problem is?

It has all these plugin/application codes all over it.

I'm also noticing that several sites ranking in position 1, seem to use nothing but the "li" type of code or list item brackets.

Does google prefer that "li" type of code over what I'm using?

These may seem like stupid questions but something is obviously not right about the code in my theme and I need to know what I can do about it. Is there a specific theme that is coded super clean? Or can I salvage the theme I have now?

  • If you want to have a look at what google sees, just look at the text cache. How fast is your site loading?
  • Ok so I looked at the cache and it just shows a picture of my website.

    Is that the cache you're talking about?

    Then I tested the speed on iwebtool.com and it said .05 seconds.

    Now I don't know what a fast website should score, but speed can't be the only factor that matters here. Just because there are so many javascript applications in my theme, won't that influence the way google views my website?

    Even if the site is fast, can't the spiders still get confused and rank my site lower? Because they have to go through all these javascript applications just to find the text/keyword portion of my website?

    I am not an SEO pro like many of you guys which is why I'm asking.

  • I have seen case studies of people who hired programmers to drastically clean up their WP code and have seen higher rankings. It's just wordpress in general really - although I'm sure some themes are bulkier in code than others. I've used Thesis which has some pretty clean and SEO friendly code. Pain in the butt to customize exactly it how I wanted to though.
  • You should test your site/theme without your plugins active first.

    I see you have *at least* three different contact-form plugins, all of them load Javascript code. You have "custom contact forms", "contact form 7", "ninja contact form" etc.etc.. and probably a whole load of other plugins which also load code.

    Think about this first, what plugins do you really need?

    Check and optimize your site with the page-speed browser adddon. You press F12 and can analyze any page with it. You also have tons of images which can likely be compressed.

    USE A CDN! Use a cache plugin in WP and move out all images and scripts and also theme elements over to the CDN. I personally use MaxCDN to serve all static images and whatever I can from the content delivery network, not from the actual site.
