On page is becoming more important but the most important part is off page but you need to do this correctly or your site will get penalized. Build up links naturally and diversify your anchor text. Also do not make every anchor text a money keyword as this is not natural either. Good Luck

Both are important. On page optimization take less time than the off page optimization.

Both are important, you start with onpage and finish with offpage. Offpage is more important then onpage.

On-page has become A LOT less important in the last years.

If you still care about keyword density, meta tag keywords, LSI keywords and other nonsense..then you probably haven't learned a lot. If you have good RELEVANT content plus good title and description you are already *halfway* there.

The rest is stuff I myself consider mandatory anyway, like good site structure, navigation, meaningful categories etc....but CONTENT overall is more important than looking at on-site factors which are becoming less and less important.

Off-page SEO is more important. You will need many quality backlinks to rank well for competitive keywords.

    What's more important?

    ON-Page

    Why?

Because good On-page SEO gets more people to see your site, which...

gets more people to read your site, and...

if your SEO and article mesh well, you've got quality content, which...

gets people to link to your site, which...

    automatically gets you off-site SEO.

TLDR; You can let off-site SEO happen naturally, but you have to work at on-site SEO.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7615187].message }}
    • Both are important. Off page is harder to establish, but if you do good on page SEO and keep your site filled with quality, relevant content, it might help off page SEO a bit.

Both are needed to function together. You should however, ensure that your on-page SEO is settled in good shape first before proceeding to off-page SEO.

On-page SEO usually takes shorter time, and can be settled once off. After that, off-page SEO will require you to put in consistent effort for the long run, mainly allowing you to expand your traffic.

Now a days On page is more important. Google change his algorithm so if you want to off page activity then be careful that your content is unique and different and do not spamming. Off page is also important but use unique content.

I would lean towards off page because backlinks are what count towards your Page Rank on Google. You should still do both. If you use the wrong keywords for your website, and many do, then you end up not getting any traffic because searchers can't find you.

Just my opinion. This should only be a small part of your internet marketing anyway.

    Best wishes,

      Hi Jyoti,

Metaphorically speaking, your question is a bit like asking "Which is more important, my left leg, or my right leg?"

You could hop along with just one leg, but it is important to have both legs to really sprint.

Likewise, your relevancy score, used to rank your page in search results, is based on the combined score of both on-site and off-site factors. You must have both working well to sprint to the top of the SERP rankings.

ON page seo and Off page seo both are important .

On page seo helps search engine to know about web page and is easy if you follow some html guidelines

whereas Off page seo helps your website to add importance and value to your content over interent (for example more backlinks = high pr of your website = more important your content is = top results on google search)

Without off-page SEO (link building) you will get neither pagerank, no free visitors from search engines. The link juice has to come from somewhere to "fuel" your site with PR and increase it's trust flow and citation flow - the main factors that determine your site rankings on Google and other SE's, and these guys strongly depend on link quality and quantity.

But the main question you should be asking yourself - Does my website offer unqiue, informative content that is valuable to my potential visitors? If not, then SEO won't help you much, because one of the crucial ranking factors these days is users onsite behaviour, and if that is poor - visitors come and leave you site without browsing it and spending enought time on it - you will hardly achieve high and stable ranking. So content is the king, SEO is servant.

On and Off of course, just like most everyone said. Besure to write good relevant content. Freshen it up with new content couple times a week or so especially in the beginning. Quality over quantity for backlinks (off-site) and from places relevant to your own site. Do your homework on building links as there are still people out there teaching to spam the hell out of the internet which will get you nowhere. More to it than this but just a couple pointers.

Here are some articles that might help:

Use the following "on-page" optimization techniques to improve your website's search engine ranking...

On Page Search Engine Optimization Tips

Webmasters have far less control over the "off-page" optimization factors than they do the "on-page" optimization factors. Off-page optimization does, however, influence how a website ranks in search results, so it should not be ignored.

Use the following off-page optimization techniques to improve your website search engine ranking:

I would Say offpage is like 70% and onpage 30%. If you have tons of backlinks, but arent optimized, you would rank well.

But if you are optimized onpage and have no backlinks ... you wont get ranked at all.

On page now accounts for 43% and off page 57% but i am sure this will change in the near future with more algorithm updates and i suspect both will be equal before long. A lot of focus is now on the user experience but for now getting your backlink strategy correct will still outrank your competitors.

Off page of course. Because it increases your web site authority as a whole. While trifling with on-page is definitely less productive. There is not much you can do about on page SEO. You should still do it of course, just don't overdo it and don't worry about it.

Onsite SEO has very little effect on traffic and no effect on pagerank.

Both are really important, onsite changes are mainly to make the website more SEO friendly whereas offsite is to drive traffic website. Onsite changes is like a launching pad for the driving traffic for the website.

Pagerank is a purely off-page metric. It measures the number and quality of backlinks coming into your site.

Pagerank is still important, but since the Penguin update (which dealt with links) and the panda update (which dealt with on-page issues), on-page seo can make or break your site. If you've got very good on-page seo, and select keywords carefully, you can rank easily without many backlinks, but if your on-page seo sucks, no amount of backlinks will help. So the change in recent years has biased seo towards on-page issues.

Have a look at the following page, it's full of information that should help you choose keywords, and deal with on-page stuff:

Both of them are really important. You need to work on them. On-Page SEO only guarantees that your website is READY to offer something to your clients. The whole process is Off-Page (invite the member to visit your website)

We like to think that on page is like the base and offsite is to give you the extra edge. Without the onsite basics you won't do much help with most offsite work.

The link building and promotion you do should be secondary to help bring clients to your site but first you must ensure your website is properly developed and converting clients to your call to action (and reducing the bounce rate)

When you do that and then apply your offsite, the offsite should yield much more results.

Both. On page SEO is one of the SEO practices that the webmasters should be aware of. It involves the usage of various elements like keywords, meta tags and content for promoting it on the web and Off page SEO refers to another SEO practice that is done off the pages of a website so as to maximize its performance in the search engines for targeted keywords.
