This is probably the worst way to analyse competition as it's all relative. You also need to bear in mind that the creators of those programs have set their own rules to say "difficult", "easy" etc

If I'm not mistaken, one of MNF factors for determining competition is the keywords in quotes and based on the results that are returned in Google. While it's a loose metric, still very unreliable.

The way you analyse competition is through experience, gut feel, your SEO skill, and your budget.

I suspect that those that ask this type of question on WF probably have less than $200 for a whole campaign. Am I mistaken?

If you're talking about SEO, there's no better tool than Google's AdWords keyword tool. Pretty much everything else out there simply takes that data, runs it through same algorithm they made up, and turns it into something pretty.

You'll get far better results if you use the AdWords tool directly and then do the manual leg work that nobody else is willing to do - look at search results, look at sites that are ranking, see how well their SEO has been setup, check backlink profiles, etc.

With that said, you can google a tool that came out recently called something like Long Tail Pro. I stand by what I said above, but so far this is the best tool I've seen. However, it doesn't replace the need to do manual checking yourself. But it does speed up part of the process.

Yep and does it slower. I just did an exhaustive search for new tools for keywords research and tried out all of them and not even one of them gave me what adwords keyword tool combined with SEO quake and looking at the first page gave me.

GAKT is great for finding keywords, but tells you virtually nothing about the keyword competition.

Indeed this is a valid approach, but gets very tedious if you want to analysis hundreds or every thousands of keywords.

If you really need the tool as you don't want to do with your legs and arms, as far as I know there is a tool that mentioned above is Long Pro + Platinum which cost monthly price but could do automatic keyword competitors analysis.

I just wanna tell you that most of the links in the signature are trash and/or a trap to make you pay!
