What am I doing wrong???

I started my first blog (IM project) about two years ago. First year I made just over $1,000, second year I made about $1,500. I was thrilled with the first years results, but really think I should be making more now. I know my site has a lot of potential, just don't know what to do to get over the place I am at now with it. I had never even heard of IMing before starting this blog in desperation to make extra money!!

First year I was typically getting 300 unique visits a day (from about month three on). Second year I got all the way to 800 views a day. This lasted about two or three months before the traffic started to drop again. The traffic was a direct reflection on how I was ranking in google at the time.

I have really neglected the site (due to being pregnant and starting a new job), but have recently started working on it again.

I post in forums related to my niche and am starting to post more on related blogs. What I am wondering is why did my site rank so well in the beginning, even when I was not doing much and now it is not?

If anyone would like to take a look at the site and give me any tips I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!! (site is in my signature)

Have you been tracking anything during those couple of years? It's easier to know what to focus on when you have real data from the money sites/pages.
  • I'll help, I can't see signature, maybe PM me?

    • I messaged you, thanks!

As far as the tracking goes, I am not sure what you are asking specifically, but I watch my stats all the time. The drop in views come when my site falls off the first page (like it is now) for a few of my main keywords. What I am really trying to figure out is how to get my site back to where it was, or higher, in google. Thanks!

That may be because there was not much competition for those keywords when you started and now there is stiff competition. Need to have a look at your website, keywords you are ranking, competition for them and backlinks

    • I don't think the competition has changed too much for the words. It is not a big IMing niche like some. The people in the niche are typically there for support and sharing, not for making money. It would be great if anyone would like to take a look at my site and give some specific advice, thanks in advance!
  • Just a word of friendly advice, it always best to avoid advertising your niche/money sites on IM websites.

There are billions of scrupulous vultures lurking that you will not be aware of.

    • I know you are not supposed to share your niche....but I honestly don't feel that I am competing with most of these people. Unless they have been through 4 IVF's and 3 FET's (some people probably don't even know what an IVF or FET is )then they really can't compete with what I am doing...which is relating to people and hoping to make some money out of it.

I think I have benefitted from sharing my niche and getting some real advice. I may be ignorant to think this way, but I don't think the niche is some big secret anyway.
