Average CPC declined for 5th straight month (Google)

Google earnings were released a few minutes ago and they released some interesting data.

"Average cost-per-click, a critical metric that denotes the price advertisers pay Google, declined 6 percent from a year ago, the fifth consecutive quarter of decline." Google fourth quarter revenue outpaces Street targets, shares climb - Yahoo! Finance

This is good news for those who use Adwords and not the best of news for those who use AdSense. However, Google had a very solid quarter and profit was up. A far cry from last quarter when people were posting about how the end was near for Google because they dropped a bit after earnings.

My Adsense CPC has almost tripled since Nov. 2012, the problem right now is that was the beginning of the holidays (usually higher earnings), the other problem is Google introduced those huge arrows next to each text Ad (that's all I run) around the same time.

I seriously doubt I'm the only one that's seen a very good increase in Adsense earnings.

I'm starting to think those big arrows are increasing my earnings (CTR), like I said still difficult to prove until a few months from now, then compare YOY earnings.

I kinda thought Adwords guys would get pissed off about those big arrows, apparently not.

No, I've hit a pretty good steady level.

Of course the CPC will go down, as more and more slots are
opened up. That's the key. Mobile is just now starting to
blosson for google and others. There still is a learning curve.

I have seen an increase in CPC.
I've been working on building authority sites and getting
my own traffic. I suspect people who just toss something
up expect to get loads of cash. But the CPC is dependent on
      so many things.

If more and more slots are opened up for ads, and google just
did introduce that behemoth of an ad...and now they want people
to bid on mobile? They have to lower the CPC overall. Search
is the same way. So many people search google from mobile and
use apps. That's more opportunities for ads.

Somehow they always increase their profits.

I'm sure the exact timing of those big arrows wasn't an accident, they started those arrows at exactly the same time of year that earnings always go up (holidays).

I guess If their going to test something new, go big or go home.

I'm also sure the added CTR on those big arrows boosted Googles end of year earnings, more than the usual higher end of year earnings.
