Local domain name hosted in local web hosting for local results?

I have been entertaining this thought:

A client's website of mine is not ranking well in Singapore Google's SERPs for search term "Singapore [niche]".

However, it's ranking in #5 in US Google for the same search term "Singapore [niche]".

Do you think it will make sense if I move the hosting to Singapore so that Google might rank my client's website higher since it's hosted in Singapore?

Has anyone done this before?

  • The location of your hosting isnt really a factor any more due to cloud hosting, If you want to rank well locally consider getting a local address and adding it to the website, aswell as using local phrases\terminology and getting links from local directories etc.

Also having a local tld like .co.uk will help.
  • The simple answer is, "Maybe." But certainly having a .com.sg or
    .sg.

Having both is the best of both worlds. Having neither, would be
a complete crap shoot. Having just the .sg extension, could be enough,
and google may ignore the hosting country. Why not cover all bases?

I don't think google ever fully ignores the hosting country.

However, the domain extension is a much better signal.
Just saying that having the domain and hosting could be the final push.
