Understanding Wordpress Static Home Page?

I'm interested in how my static homepage will appear in the serps.

If you Google "Socius Marketing" you see the following in the serps:

Socius Marketing
sociusmarketing.com/
Based in Tampa, Florida, Socius Marketing is a full-service search engine optimization company that specializes in organic search engine optimization

However, when you click on the link... you see an entirely different "Title Tag" in the browser tab.

I'm currently setting up my static homepage, named "Home". The automatic permalink given is domain.com/home/

I publish the page, go to Wordpress>Settings>Reading and click static homepage, selection "Home"

My questions are as follows:

Question one: How will my company show up in the serps?

Domain
Domain.com/home/
Site Description

or

Domain
Domain.com/
Site Description

No "Home" in the url. I've been told in another thread that Wordpress will override the /home/ and only show domain.com. I know this to be true in the browser bar, but is it true in the serps? and why?

Second Question:

Google "Socius Marketing"

Why is it that the serps title differs from the actual page title tag when clicked on? I'm using Yoast SEO for Wordpress and can customize my title tags. I want my company name to show in the serps as the title tag and not SEO optimized title tag.

I also have access to my day jobs backend of Wordpress. When you google that company, the same as above happens. I can see in Yoast that the SEO optimized title tag is what's written as the serps title, however... only the domain shows in the serps.

Sorry for the long drawn out, confusingly written question.

    1) It will show xxxx.com if you've set it up in WP options.
    2) Because Google is serving the most relevant title (it doesnt 100% use the titles you set)

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Can you help me understand the way "Titles" appear in the serps?

    Google "Socius Marketing"

    See how there listing is:

    Socius Marketing
    sociusmarketing.com/
Based in Tampa, Florida, Socius Marketing is a full-service search engine optimization company that specializes in organic search engine optimization

When creating the "Title Tag" in worpress, I'm thinking it's "Socius Marketing" that would be entered into Yoasts SEO title field. However, if you click on the link... the actual "Title Tag" in the tab is different, it's "Search Engine Optimization Tampa Florida, SEO, Internet Marketing"

How can it be different? How can the preview of the serps result be different then the actual result?

I'm not seeing any meta data at all on that page. Are you sure that you're using Yoast and it's enabled.

When your title tag is too long, instead of simply truncating it and adding an ellipsis to the end the way they used to,
Google is trying to algorithmically determine a better title for the post, that's why it's different.
In your example site, their title tag is too long.

I can't steal all the credit for this though....
I read about this in the google inside search blog last year, then I ran into this excellent article by SEOMoz.

      Nope!

Enter the title tag you want. Again, be sure to read the article above, it will clear up a lot for you.

Also, make sure to read the Yoast's plugin settings directions as well.

Question answered! wish I didn't have to be reconfirmed five times about something, but I do. Guess it's the OCD. Thanks David!
