Help with promoting a blog post to get more traffic

Hi WF

I've just registered after many months of browsing the Warrior Forum which has helped me out a lot, so thank you! I'm new to the SEO world but I have always had an interest in it since creating my first website at college!

So, here's the thing. I have a pdf guide which is only downloadable once a user has signed up to our mailing list. The PDF contains really good content and has around 1700 words. So, I have decided to include this on our blog as we currently don't have much content. My question is what next? It is just down to promoting the post on social media sites? I've heard that guest posting is also good for 2013 can I use the same article for that or does it need to be unique!?

    No one will accept already published content and if you publish the same article later on your blog, you are going to build your blog with duplicate content. Yes guest writing is good if you write for high PR blogs like ComLuv.com. Publish your article there by making some changes and publish a different version of the article on your own blog.     Hey, you have made a good start.

    Creating a product that appeals to your audiencce self interest is always a good way to get subscribers, opt-ins etc.

    Now you have to build an audience. There are plenty of books and information on that.

    My advice: Specialise in something.

    Whether it be seo, ppc, video marketing or anything else. Pick something and get good at it.

    Theres lots of different ways to seo your site. The core principals still come down to content and links. But there are many ways you can skin a cat. Lots of ways to build content and links.

    My biggest piece of advice is to continiously take action and dont be afraid of making mistakes. Thats how learning is done

    I would focus less about on exactly what to do and looking for a blueprint that tells you everything, and more on getting the right mindset, understanding how google works, and the princiapals of SEO success/ranking factors.

    Uploading this PDF to your blog would be good, but you should start updating fresh content on your site asap. Google will give your blog more preference when you have content.
