Hello to All!

I'm doing keyword research and I'm about to launch a couple of websites.

I've read a lot about affiliate marketing, eCommerce, and reviews sites here on the forum.

My question is what type of traffic, should I use and what traffic should i stay away from? What is the correct SEO for each kind of these marketing techniques?:

eCommerce
affiliate
membership sites
review sites

What traffic goes with which?

    Hi
Don't mean to be an a.. but just by what you said you have a lot to learn. Don't know what you mean by "stay away from SEO traffic because, that could hurt my rankings" but i would suggest you read this:

you should test and try everything out for yourself. that is the only way to determine anything. From my experience just about everything works, but you really have to test traffic sources out for yourself.

Don't just try one try them all and make the determination yourself. I'm personally not a huge fan of SEO but it can be very profitable. I would just make better uses of my time and resources first.

SEO isn't free it is very expensive to do it right.

And the benefit of your rankings is ... ? ("To generate SEO traffic"!). So that would be rather anomalous?

As an affiliate, I don't want to spend my time, effort, energy or money attracting SEO traffic at all, not because of anything to do with my rankings, but simply because (by comparison with any other sort of traffic I've ever had/tried, in any niche, over the last 4 years) SEO visitors are my worst and least productive sort of traffic. Overall, search engine visitors stay the least amount of time on any of my sites, view the fewest pages, opt in the least often and buy anything by far the least often.

I admit I get floods of them (because good and lasting SEO happens to be an incidental side-benefit of my main traffic-generation method), but I'd hate to have to make a living from them. I perhaps could, just about, but I certainly wouldn't be very comfortable about it.

It's also a very precarious kind of traffic.

But still, collectively, these visitors are "something extra" and I'd much rather have them than not have them.

So, you don't need to "stay away from SEO traffic" at all. But it might be a very good idea to stay away from specifically working toward getting SEO-derived-visitors as your main promotional/traffic-generating method. And don't let your business be dependent for its income on Google. Make sense?

Anyone selling "1,000 visitors for $5" or anything similar/multiples. That's not even likely to be human traffic at all, and if it is, it's sometimes visitors from countries where people are being paid a penny to click on 100 sites, and don't look at them, and don't have credit cards. This is a sweeping generalization, of course, but so often true that I offer it anyway.

Brilliant reply . We saved our (not mine) multi million dollar business through $400/mth spend through google adwords!! SEO is the most expensive traffic there is as well as unreliable.

SEO is supposed to be 'free' traffic if you believe that well....all I can say is nothing about SEO is free nor cheap. Your visitors may visit for free but many will be freebe tyre kickers.

At least with adwords you get what you pay for straight away... instant gratifcation...and rather than spending months optimising for a venture that makes no money, with adwords you can find out within a week if this venture has any chance of success, and tweak as you go along to get the most effective site.

But without highly efficient adwords spend management it could clean you out in a hurry and that is why most people run away from adwords.

but the internet is now a money game just like the high street, so be prepared to spend money one way or another.

SEO is organic.... very little is free on the internet either in money or time usually both ... in the quest for the so called free organic traffic and it usually takes weeks and months , until google bans all your hard work on a whim .. or so it appears

That depends entirely on what niche you are in, I'm guessing your referring to the MMO niche. If you pick the right niche and target the right keywords i.e. "NEED RIGHT NOW" type of keywords then you will make money.

People don't make no money doing organic seo cos they haven't bothered to learn PROPER seo. To many people think seo is building a few backlinks and getting the right % of keyword density on their site....no wonder they don't make no money. Most people don't even know what breadcrumbs and taxonomy is, let alone how to properly structure a site architecture.

I disagree, as this is not always the case. Most of the times it is but there are a few that can offer actual human visitors.

To get the most bang for buck on your efforts a well SEO optimized ecommerce website is the route to go. You can make money through SEO on review websites as well if you can write good engaging reviews.

I'm building a list of affiliate products I want to try out and review.
From your perspective what does premium review article look like? Hopefully not like those things on amazon, because I don't ever believe those reviews.

Stay away from traffic exchanges. This type of traffic is useless and you must super-protect your computer from virus when you deal with the sites of traffic exchanges.

I'm not sure I agree with that statement. TEs still have their uses, maybe not in the traditional sense as they are advertised, but they still have their uses IMO.

You should surf on virtual machines or machines you don't care about though.

If you are looking for quality traffic, which I assume you are, then I would stay away from traffic from Fiverr and Adf.ly. I have success driving traffic from forums by posting and answering questions; leaving a link back to my sites. These people are usually desperate for an answer, and will follow me back to my sites for more information or an answer to their problem. I hope this helps.

Launching two sites simultaneously might not be the thing to do. Maybe I would pick one niche to go into initially and test, test, test until I see how all of this works. The bottom line is that you want targeted traffic that wants what you have to offer. You can get that from ppc, Seo , solo ads, etc if that's what they are looking for. There is no magic bullet and no secret formula to this stuff. We all test our marketing and see what works. Once we find out what's working for us we do more of it and possibly add an additional traffic method to scale up the results.

Anything offering huge amounts of traffic in little time or no work invloved in a big signal to stay away from.

The best traffic you can get, is the kind you create yourself. You simply find two methods you think you would enjoy doing then spend all your time and energy into them.

Once you see results then move onto another traffic method and get good at that.

After you have tested 4-5 different traffic methods focus one the ones that are bringing in most of the visitors, but always have multiple streams of traffic coming to your site.

This way if one source drys up, your business won't fall with it.

If I can add a little more detail, i plan on using video to drive traffic, because the people I'm targeting have a short attention span because their job is to stand in one spot all day so once they get online, there are very few places i can find them youtube, is one of those places.

      Will you expand?

    Hi Carolynn

Whatever traffic you end up trying, my advice is to make sure you use some kind of tracking program to test your results. I have spent many a wasted evening using certain sites to drive traffic and it was only when I started using a tracking site that I realised that many of the sites I was using were useless and were getting me nowhere!

So now, I track, track, track, even though it takes a bit longer to do my marketing, it's worth it!

    Hope that helps!

    Kind regards
    Clare

In terms of seo, and not paid traffic, all traffic is good traffic. If I don't have to pay for a visitor, I can care less where they come from or how they land on my site. Afterall, we all have more than one interest in life...right!!
