I've been reading about link wheels for a while and I've thought about using one for my niche. Before I even think about setting one up I need to know if they are safe to use.

If they are safe to use does anyone have detailed instructions on how to create one?

It depends on what you mean by safe.

    Safe last year? - generally.

Safe now? - Depends on how you do it.

Safe in 6 months - Maybe not.

It's up to you whether you want to try and trick Google and hope they don't catch on, but I don't imagine it takes a massive amount of computing power to see a site is getting links in the same way as 1000 other sites that have been penalised for link spamming.

Many people seem to think Google are not clever enough to realise you're building a bunch of sites to promote your own site, which may be true to some extent, but if you then follow some of the advice to get masses of spammy links to your outer sites "because that won't get your main site penalised", then I'd say you need to realise you're responsible for your own business and what happens to it.

It's all about risk and reward. Nothing artificial should ever be classified as "safe". The question is whether or not the reward in the form of higher rankings is worth the risk that you'll get flagged by Google.

A link wheel can most definitely provide good value if done the "right" way. But really any linking strategy can provide value if done the right way. But if you're not comfortable waking up one day and seeing you're site has been penalized then don't do it. Is it likely that will happen, probably not. But you have to understand the risks involved and if doing some aggressive link building is the only way you can get a site ranked in the time frame involved then to me it's worth the risk since the risk is minimal - to lose a site not on the 1st page isn't a big deal.

These remarks are absolutely true.. IF your sole intention is to 'boost' your rankings. Self promotion, however, is and should be part of the goal, maybe even the main goal. Do you think Amazon doesn't or hasn't ever used "linkwheels" or "link pyramids"? Doesn't matter what you label 'em.. basically, setting up sites themselves in order to promote their own site. Ebay? You betcha. I would bet 99% of ALL authority sites either does or has in the past before they didnt need to anymore. So.. yes, create quality content on these bad boys, definitely. Google has no problem with self promotion though.. if they did, they would crumble, as they would have no more gauges to rank anything. How does someone find your site if you dont put up several places for them to find it?

Links are the fuel of a website, quality links are a good "fuel" and bad links make your website choke and fall in Google.Link wheel is safe as long as it is well prepared, count on 100% unique and fresh content on all websites in the wheel.

Link wheel is good but be careful on how you inter link it.

You have got to leave no traces, open link wheel is usually the best and hard to track.
