im creating an information website focusing on a particular subject.

I have imported articles from ezine articles so that the site has good relevant information on it, however i have heard that google will punish my site because its viewed by google as duplicate content.

Can someone clarify this please b4 my site is doomed from the start??

If I go to google and search for "Blue Widgets".

An article comes back about "blue widgets". If I copy this page to my site, I won't rank for the keyword "blue widgets" with this page as google see's that this information is already displayed for this keyword. On some extremely low competition phrases you may see similar content on the SERP as google is short for content to display.

Other than this you will experience no penalty.

The only problem in copying the content from other sites is that google see it as duplicate and thus you dont get major serps. Instead if you just rewrite it with a little more useful information, you can have a better serp. Backlinks are also very important so focus on your content and backlinks. But as they say

    Content is the king

the thing is that i don't like google due to its rules its itself not clear about its rules it will write different rules in different places and currently google has announced that he won't approve any site less older than 6 months and previously it was approving copy pasting site but now he strictly mentioned that he won't accept any copy pasting sites, another rules added..if you make a site on sports mean you need to write only about sports if you write miscellaneous thing in your blog /website whether its original or quality thing google won't accept it, if you are using ur old adsense code in such types of site then it will simply ban you and hold your check while payout time.

      OK...

What if i write my own articles and publish them on my site, but i also want to submit them to article directories.

Which order should i do it??

Also, if my articles are on both my site and within the article directory as well, who gets the credit for the articles?? article directories or my site??

    Hey New Life,

Don't submit the same articles to article directories as you place on your site. If your aim is to rank well then Keep your website unique and submit different articles to directories.

The duplicate content penalty is a pain in the a**se for SEO'ers BUT - you can see their point of view. If you were searching for information on a topic would you really want to see the same information listed dozens of times? Course not - you'd want to see a variety of results.

Try writing unique contents instead of duplicates.According to the new google update, google will penalize a website having duplicate contents.

As Matt Cutt has once said, Google serves as an index and leaving a link back to it's original poster will most likely give more credit to the original poster. So that means in theory if you post your articles to many many article directories, your quality link juice from the article plummets that is why people recommend only submitting your articles to the top 3 article directories.

It is not as good as publishing original content , but I have to say I had a couple of articles that I picked up from EA and they were ranking high for quite some time ..

if you think that the article is useful. Then you can rewrite it. If you don't have the idea on how to rewrite it or laziness occurs, you can ask the original author to give permission to repost it and give him of course credits

I highly recommend against ripping off content. Create your own & you will do much better.

      Hi New Life,

There is no penalty for duplicate content. Google will only index one of the duplicate pages for SERP and drop all others into the supplemental index. So those pages are less likely to appear in SERP.

      Hi pooja84,

      Nope, no penalty.

      Hi squinter,

Using articles from Ezine Articles is not ripping off content. Every author there has given their permission to allow the articles to be published by other webmasters. In fact, that is the primary purpose of the site, getting your articles syndicated to other websites.

You are correct about doing better when creating your own.
