Can anyone explain why the description for my site in Google hasn't changed, even though I changed it several months ago?

  • I would suggest posting the site here for further review.
  • When was your site crawled last?
  • I am sure that Google Bot did NOT visit your website in the last few days ... months?!? Are you sure you updated the Meta Description? Or just the description of your website, there is a difference!

  • Assuming Google has cached the page you can tell the date of the version they're currently using by using the link to that version.

Then, so long as you know when you made the description change, you should be able to work out where the problem is.
  • The best way is to go to the Rich Snippets testing tool of Google and check that Google is able to detect your meta description properly or not.
Paste your website homepage link here
    Google Structured Data Testing Tool
    and see the results
  • Google only uses the description as a back up if it can't get much from your content. Have a look at the description it is showing and if it's an extract from your page dont worry. You will probably find it displays different descriptions on different keywords which is good.
