How To Get Top Rankings For Competitive Keywords

I am getting into IM and the first question that comes to my mind is how to get the top rankings for a competitive keyword?

Is it no longer possible to get top rankings?

If it is possible what should be done and how long should it take me to reach on top.

    There is no secret to getting into the top one for competitive words and if it were that easy, we all would have already been number one in a click of a button, however, that isn't the case as today. If you are new and your site generally have little to no backlinks or have no promotion at all, it is relative to say that your site is low authority which means that your site is limited to ranking high for a few weeks or so even if you get a lot of backlinks. I strongly suggest going slow and try to rank for low competitive keywords that you can rank well on as well as pull a few decent clicks from the search engines until you are strong enough to rank for higher competitive ones. The more authority/age your site has, the more likely it is able to rank for higher competitive keywords.

    Thanks for your help. I have got into a competitive niche and have been able to hit page no 2 in 2 weeks. I have done some backlinking, and am continuing to do so, I am hopeful to get to page one for the main term. I have started getting traffic from related terms and some from the main term too. I am wondering how can I get backlinks from authority sites.

    One of the best ways is track the backlink of top 10 websites for individual competitive keywords and try to get backlinks from the resources their links sourced from.

    It should never be impossible to reach top rankings. It just gets harder.

    I would expect it to take a lot of time, work, & energy. But def doable with enough dedication.

    SEO requires techniques but at the same time one has to keep himself updated of new techniques to maintain the rankings.

    You can get into good SERPs if you follow techniques and keep on doing it. Who knows your competitors might lag in keeping abreast of new SEO techniques and that gives you the chance to cling their position.

    You can start with similar but less competitive keywords and then as you are able to get into good SERPs, move to your more competitive keyword(s).

    If you want rankings for your competitive keywords, my advice would be directory submission, keyword submission, exchanging links with high PR sites, blog posting, social bookmarking....

    Build your site up there with link building. There is no secret to getting ranked first except work and more work. Work up the charts slowly like in a ranking system in Alexa.

    There are two ways to go about this:

    1. Subscribe to Wordtracker. (A subscription is about $8 for a day.) Start looking for related keywords by doing a search for a broad, general, generic keyword in your niche. Then drill down and dig up all the related "exact" keyword phrases that have 9 or fewer competing pages. All that's left is to optimize a page on your site for each one and you'll have a A top 10 ranking!

    2.Create content pages that each focus on two, or at most three, of your keyword.
    Put up 100 such pages and you've probably got 250 of these 9 or fewer competing pages phrases covered.
    To get to 100 pages all you do is create four pages a day - five days a week. If you miss a day make it up over the weekend. But by the end of five weeks you'll have 100 pages hard at work for you.

    Find high pr dofollow blogs related to your site and post comments there and buid alot of links to your site...

    It is not impossible to get to page # 1. the only thing is that it is more difficult to achieve now.

    what you can do is to find those less competitive keywords first then try to rank them in the SERP's. then you can start building slowly to the higher and more competitive keywords.

    *Get backlinks to your site from a high PR site preferable from 5 to 9.
    *Submit articles to EZinearticles and go articles.
    * Bookmarking is also important. bookmark your site if you have not so they indexed quickly. If its a blog bookmark them every time you update them.

    *To find the best backlink sites with very high PR is to get into Angela Edwards Backlink pack which are very great and proven.

    * You can also go to this site and find your niche and leave comments with your keywords as your signature, DoFollow Diver - The Premier DoFollow Blogs Search Engine. this is very handy and easy to use.
