Importance of Tags to Page Ranking

Helo friends, please I have a few questions about Tags: I want to know the relevance of Tags to Page Rank. Secondly, what is the maximum approved number of tags required per post? Thanks for your interest!

    Tags have nothing to do with page ranking. There is no
    maximum, but I'm sure someone is bound to come up
    with a number for the shear joy of coming up with
    a number. Sort of like the meta keyword.

    Tags have more to do with internal linking, which I suppose,
    in a round about way, may affect internal linking.

    Do you actually know what a tag is?

    If you tag things with BS, what kind of a user experience do
    you think you will give? You can't get silk out of a sow's ear.

    If google needs a tag to figure out what your post is about,
    then what kind of stuff are you writing? There seems to be tons
    of misunderstanding of what tags are, when they should be used,
    and what actually should be in them. If you knew the answer to
    those 3 things, you would never start this thread.

      There is another way in which Tags can affect rankings.

      If you have pages for individual tags listing all the URLs that contain those tags, which is a relatively common practice, then you can end up with a lot of pages which are essentially internal duplicates.

      If you have too many duplicate pages you can end up with a Panda penalty. I have recovered a site from Panda by noindexing large numbers of duplicate pages like this - they're still there for the users, but they don't cause a Panda problem.

    A simple search, on any search engine for that matter, would show you that PageRank is based on backlinks. Thus, tags have absolutely nothing to do with it.

      I think the tag is more related with SEO, not ranking. Althouh SEO will affect the ranking. However, many experts claimed that the tag is still required. Even though not all search engine require tag. So, the point that the tag is seo optimization. Thank you.

    If you really insist on number of tags, 5-10 is non-spammy tags count.

    Some people stuff their tags field with 60 keywords in the hope to get search engine spiders landing on their page and give some sort of (unknown) seo advantage

    It is important to have tags (according to the updates!), it would be great to have your main keyword, 3 (or max 4!) relevant keywords -> At least say the main keyword twice, but a longer keyword (Example: "Seo guide" is your main keyword, the other 2 keywords could be "good seo guide", "seo guide information"). Try to stick to your main keywords. Of course Title and Description are VERY important while Tags are another way to tell search engines which keywords are "important" on your page -> And of course do NOT forget that you should have ALL of these keywords in the page where the tags are!

    You can use tags also for keywords density. It means, when you put to much tags, it can looks like keywords stuffing on the sights of search engine.
