Discouraged by my site's ranking

I've been working on an older emd site that had always ranked above the fold on page #1, but dropped down below the fold after the emd update. Whether or not the emd was the real reason, I don't know. But I've doubled the content since then, (all done by myself), added squidoo and other backlinks, but nothing helps move it up.

This morning when I saw that the site had dropped again and that three squidoo lens, yes, 3 in a row..sit above my site, it was doubly discouraging. I'm now #9, and get almost zero traffic. This is a low volume keyword, so I need to be near the top.

The site is juiceextractorreviews dot org. I guess it's my lack of social media involvement that's the problem. That's the only reason I can come up with, but maybe if other people look it over, I can get some other ideas.

The whole social media thing for me is hard. I'm a lady in her middle years, whose adult children have finally talked into having my own facebook page, but I have no interest in being "friends" with strangers (actually, I don't even want to be friends with all of my relatives!) I'm just saying this to point out that this social media stuff doesn't come easy to me.

Neither do I have a list. With doing Amazon reviews as my focus, I haven't really seen the point of the list. I've always had too little traffic, anyway. But when this site was above the fold, it made some sales, so that I thought as long as I kept adding reviews, the sales would increase accordingly. Then that emd update came, and it's been nothing since then, in spite of continuing to add content to the site.

Any advice as to what to do or how to repurpose this material (break it up into Squidoo lens???) would be appreciated.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm really frustrated.

There are a few things you could do to get higher rankings with your site. You have almost no backlinks. Just getting a couple of good backlinks would probably get you back in the top 3.

Create a YouTube video, in the description of the video link back to your site, and embed that video on your page.

Yes, Social Media can help with rankings. Create a Twitter account - doesn't have to be for yourself, could be under the name of your site. Link back to your site.

Also search for Google Authorship and setup your site for that.

Squidoo pages rank fairly easily, but they are easy to outrank by just doing a few things.

I could care less about FB/twitter & still rank pages.

I see you at position #10 in Google SERPs. Looks like your over optimized (Google Cache).

Yukon, my keyword density for "juice extractor reviews" is only .4% (point 4) for the home page. Isn't that low? And about two months ago I removed the exact keyword phrase from the title of the home page post. Or is the variation too close?

The keyword phrase is mentioned in the:
    • EMD
    • Page Title
    • 1 <h1> tag
    • 3 <h2> tags
    • Multiple times in the pages content

I would at least remove the exact keyword from the 3 <h2> tags.

Squidoo also has an advantage on one of the keywords (reviews) in your keyword phrase: intitle:"reviews" site:www.squidoo.com

    CatherineMay,

Being successfully ranked on Google only to have it all go away can be frustrating. When all of your hard work seems to have been lost.

Remember that quality backlinking is your most effective and fastest way to once again increase your website ranking.

Use these methods to acquire quality backlinks:

    1. Blog Commenting:

Creating backlinks by commenting on blog posts will help boost your pagerank. By following this method alone some have made it to a rank of 3-4 on Google.

    2. Social Media:

Social Media profiles incorporate DoFollow links and are quick to increase website rank. You mentioned you don't want any personal social media accounts. Make the accounts after your website instead of yourself. This is better marketing for your website anyway. Also make a YouTube video about your website.

    3. Directory Listings:

List your website on as many respectable directories as you find to boost your pagerank. Have a hyperlink to your website with your profile as this can increase your rank significantly.

    4. Guest blogging:

Even though this is an exhausting, time consuming process, guest blogging will increase your page rank.

    5. Unique Backlinks:

This one is not an easy task. However if you are able to get backlinks, such as .gov or .edu, from one of these respected sites, this will help increase your rankings.

Also be sure not to have any backlinks related to spam. Google will consider your site associated also which will hurt your rankings.

Google respects fast loading pages, take all the measures to make your site good but retaining the ability to load fast.

    These measures should help.

Squidoo backlinks are now no-follow so won't help you rank. Squidoo has also seen a uge drop in traffic recently so you might overtake them quicker than you think

The OP site is now sitting at #5 for [juice extractor reviews].

Squidoo is sitting at #1, but they're actually targeting the keyword [best juice extractor reviews].

What's interesting is, notice the Google Sitelinks for the #1 Squidoo ranked page for the OP keyword [juice extractor reviews] & the other target keyword [best juice extractor reviews]. Those Sitelinks aren't additional internal pages, they're jump links on the single ranked page

The original ranked Squidoo page URL:
    • hxxp://www.squidoo.com/best-juice-extractor-reviews

The URLs are all the same except for the jump links (#ID):
    • hxxp://www.squidoo.com/best-juice-extractor-reviews#module156533607
    • hxxp://www.squidoo.com/best-juice-extractor-reviews#module156183266
    • hxxp://www.squidoo.com/best-juice-extractor-reviews#module156185872

I've seen jump-links show up as Google Sitelinks (Wikipedia/SERPs) but it's not very common (at least from what I've seen).

Google Cache of the ranked page, shows the Google Sitelinks (jump-link) anchor-text/URLs.

Wow that is crazy, Yukon as always is the man! I didn't actually look it up just saw her saying she had been making Squidoo lenses to try and rank and had to say nooo. Worse idea still if she's competing with Squidoo, looks like Google has determined Squidoo is the authority on juicer reviews so stop giving them more ammo Catherine

I don't think I've ever seen that apart from Wikipedia, maybe big brand sites

Squidoo does also target those same Google Sitelinks (jump-links) with additional internal supporting pages.

One of the Google Sitelinks includes the keyword [Breville 800JEXL], which is also being targeted on 14 separate internal pages on the same domain (Squidoo):

I'm sure those supporting pages (relevancy) play a role in the original ranked Squidoo page that OP is up against.
