Subpages dropping from PR1 to PR N/A but still indexed

I have a site that I am convinced has been penalized by google since near day 1 despite being very careful with backlinking and limiting ads on site.

The main domain is now PR2 after last update, and most of the newer articles are PR1.

However 3 of my older 500+ word articles dropped from PR1orPR0 to PR N/A, and I have never seen this.

What's interesting is they are still indexed when I google: w w w.domain.com/subpage

However, when I google :http:// w w w.domain.com/subpage they are not indexed.

Now the PR1 and PR0 pages are indexed either way which is the strange part.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as far as backlinks go.

Should I remove these pages? And just assume google found a reason to penalize them..One was a recipe that I personally created, another a very good unique article..There should be no reason for the drop.

How do I know google has penalized the site overall?

a)Because when searching EMD, it is not in top 1000 despite being somewhat rare.

b) only 2 organic hits from Google EVER, despite 15 original well written articles and 8 months of time.

c) site has great on page SEO: breadcrumbs, fast loading, good internal linking and still gets no love.

d) when I search for many of the older articles in quotes, the backlinks outperform my site (For example I put some excerpts from the posts on blogger.com linking back to site).
