Is 301 redirect good in this situation

Just wondering if forums SEO gurus can help on this. We are a classified job board which has recently been hit by panda update. We realized that this might have happened due to the way our system creates pages with job content.

Actually for a particular job type (lets say sales jobs) we will show a page only when there are 3 or more sales jobs in our database. So a url gets created when we have 3 jobs but there might be a times when there are no sales jobs on the site resulting in an empty page. Now this is happening with a lot of job types. what you guys think is the best way of limiting these thin pages.

1) should I put no index code on pages with less than 3 jobs and taken no index off when url has more than 3 jobs

2) put a 301 redirect to a related page when less than 3 jobs and removed it when page has more then 3. ( a bit confused about switching a page on and off with a permanent redirect).

Any suggestion welcome and sorry for the long read

    Hi,

this is a bit tricky... What you could do is to always have some kind of content on each page so the page never get's totally blank.

It could be some generic text describing the content on the page etc...

Then, when there are jobs to display they will be displayed in additon to the standard text thus creating updated and fresh content.

      Thanks for your reply
This is one of ideas we have considered but wont this create a lot of thin pages then which might be perfect panda candidates. Please also consider that there are thousands of such pages because this is a big corporate site and we can t have unique content on every page

    Yeah agreed with

.. Use generic content on every new page, Not that much but at-least enough to to save you..... and jobs added down one by one...

Ensure to show up atleast some content in the blank pages to have those pages indexed.
