Webmaster Tools Links Gone

Anybody else experience that all old links to their website on Webmaster tools were erased recently? I checked not too long ago for one of my sites & had thousands of links, but now have only 38 registered.

Anyone?

  • actually there's no guarantee that all your links are alive lifelong, when the links removed/linking page dies, the webmaster tools automatically remove it from "links to your website" list.

    • Links naturally get removed over time for many reasons. Aside from that, Google does not show all links and is a terrible place to track your backlinks.
  • What happened to me is that they all went away suddenly. Also, my home page was replaced in Google by one of my sub-pages.

    • If the link drop occured in other tools that means your links simply got removed. Otherwise it's Google either hiding or flagging your links as spam. If a homepage gets replaced by one of your other pages.. that means you have a lot more inlinks pointing to the page than your actual home page.

  • YESSS!!! Literally ALL of my links disappeared suddenly!! Even ones that are coming from my other websites, so they are definitely there, and definitely not spam. My rankings have not dropped...yet. But I'm pretty worried. I have no clue whats going on. Is anyone else experiencing this??
  • Me too lost a lot of back links from my Webmaster tools account. Domains from which i got 20k back links are not even available in the entire linked domains list.

    • no all my links are gone form my home page and 70 percent of my inner pages which had about 5000 and 250 domains and my site actually went up in the search.
  • Same problem here , probably (Hopefully!) it's a bug and will be fixed soon.

  • Yes, I lost like half a week ago, and today I was down to 10. Ten.

    I haven't seen much change with rankings yet, but it makes me worried.
  • Its a glitch, google no about it, i have lost loads of links but my rankings are not effected yet.....
  • It almost certainly is just a reporting issue in Webmaster Tools. Whether it is a bug or simply a change in what links are shown, it shouldn't affect the search engine rankings.
  • I too experience the same issue. Most of the old backlinks are gone in webmaster tools. I have not noticed any SERP change yet!!

  • You know what's odd Google isn't saying anything about this, maybe were in for a surprise. I hope its a good surprise cause I got hit pretty hard with the penguin on the October 5th update. I was very upset

    • Google simply does not want you to know which backlinks it counts. And if I were designing a search engine which is targeted by spammers, I would hide as many links as I can. The less you know about google the less you can abuse it.

  • I had the same issue for my sites. All the links are showing in google webmaster tools again today.
  • I am not sure what might be happening but it seems as if everyone has been affected. We just have to wait and hope is a bug or something of sort.
  • Yes, it is really too difficult to understand what Google is doing these days, it may be any penalization as well.
